I bought their album Good News for People Who Love Bad News back in like 2004 and thought every other song besides Float On was horrible. For some reason I kept the album on my iTunes for years and downloaded some off of their newer album We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank and never even listened to it until last night. My opinion of them has completely changed, though it's probably because their newer album is amazing, and now I find myself thinking they're actually pretty smart and funny, in a depressing sort of way.

1. We Got Everything

2. Spitting Venom

3. People as Places As People

4. Dashboard

5. Missed The Boat (Best song on Earth)

"Oh, and we carried it all so well
As if we got a new position
Oh, and I laugh all the way to Hell
Saying, "Yes, this is a fine promotion
Oh, and I laugh all the way to Hell..."

"Oh, and we carried it all so well
As if we got a new position
Oh, and we own all the tools ourselves
But not the skills to make a shelf with
Oh, what useless tools ourselves...

Anyway, have you ever changed your mind about a band after not having heard them for a few years?

Those songs are good, but they still don't compare to Float On... 😛

I used to be all about rap and hip hop songs, but as I went through high school, then college and then university, I found myself listening to a lot of different music. One band I really liked and respected was Nickelback. I have two bands in particular that I liked before but not anymore: Nickelback and Our Lady Peace.

I dislike Nickelback now because they really seem to be recycling their music and I'm not one to listen to new songs that sound too much like the old ones... The disliking of OLP is simple: they suck doing live performances. Much rather listen to their albums then see them live and I haven't much bothered to listen to their newer songs.

Float On was one of the better songs on the album Good News For People Who Love Bad News, but I feel their second album is a lot better. It's more indie-rock sounding, while still holding on to the folk and blues rock roots. That said, Float On is by far their most mainstream and bland sounding song, thus picked for the debut single.

hmm my favorite song from modest mouse was on there debut cd called "This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About" it's called "Dramamine" which got to buy "Good News for People Who Love Bad News" "Float On" was good but "Bukowski" and "Bury Me with It" are my favorites off that album ^^

as for a band I didn't like but know I do was A Perfect Circle, when i first heard them it sounded like another Tool rip off (same singer too) but after i heard the second cd and the emotive cd they sounded a lot better then i gave them credit for and have favorites on all 3 cds now

I love Modest Mouse's "Satin in a Coffin." It's on my playlist, actually. ^w^ *goes to listen*
