Mairead's Music: Part Sept -Jazz / Big Band Edition
1. Billie Holiday
-...pioneered a new way of manipulating wording and tempo, and also popularized a more personal and intimate approach to singing...
Summertime-

2. Charles Mingus
-First of all, awesome name, secondly, even awesomer bassist, composer, and pianist.
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat-

3. Chet Baker
-One of my favorite musicians / singers. His voice is so strange and smooth.
My favorite song by him is "Blue Room" but it's damn near impossible to find, so here is "Let's Get Lost"

4. Duke Ellington
-Described his music as "American Music" despite being named one of the most influential figures in jazz.
Satin Doll-

5. George Gershwin
- Called the "King of Jazz". I don't know about that, but "Rhapsody in Blue" is amazing.

6. Ella Fitzgerald
-Known as the "First Lady of Song" and one of the most influential jazz vocalists.
Angel Eyes- (Chet Baker does a great version of this one too)

7. Benny Goodman
-The King of Swing
Stompin' At The Savoy-

8. Jamie Cullum
-So some might disagree with him being on this list at all, if they can even remember his one-hit "All At Sea" in 2003 off the album "Twentysomething". He's more jazz-pop than anything, and his original songs are just alright, but he covers a lot of songs and jazzifies them like NERD's "Frontin'" for one, and my favorite "Wind Cries Mary"
Frontin'- (I don't get this video montage, but just listen to the song)

11. Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto
