Some of you may remember I used to post song parodies here at the TMF and at the newsgroup alt.multimedia.tk. After ten or so of them, I found my ideas drying up.

Recently however, I've found new inspiration. Since all of my song parodies have been posted in text format, I thought it would be cool to actually record one that could be listened to and not just read.

This parody is different because it doesn't only spoof one song but several. Kudos to the first person to correctly identify the original song(s) from which this tune was derived.

And now...without further adieu...(drum roll)....Allow me to present to you for the first time, a drew70 song parody in living stereo!

Brilliant!

LMAO! "...cause when she tickles.." and something you are talking about the @rse? 😱

Very upbeat, maybe if this is done in minor key, your voice is 100% Wetton. Nice blending and mix, some adlib drum roll. Hmmm...okay, I heard the prog treatment because of the length, diverse shifts... The flute in the end portions like in the song "I Talk to the Wind"...Nice implementation of panning, lively bass lines and some funk strumming and effective laughter adlib.

I assume G-A...or so chord progressions....

Very professional stuff, Drew. Wish you could post the lyrics.

you're like (gulp) amazing dude!
Steve, thanks the kind words, pal. It's appreciated.

Great job Drew!

Top notch!!

Rob
Rob, coming from a master satirist such as yourself, that compliment means more to me than you know. Thanks, man.

Haha. Actually, it's "...Cause when she tickles, I go crazy!..."

Awesome! John Wetton of King Crimson, Uriah Heap, and Asia? Very cool of you to say.

I grew up on theme-based album rock in which there was often no pause between songs. Also, I saw Felix Cavaleri live about 7 years ago and he would medly each of his classic Rascals songs with other artists' classics of a similar tempo and chord progression. For example, the song "Groovin" shifted perfectly into The Spinners' "Just my imagination" and "Good Lovin" shifted into "La Bamba." I thought it was a very cool effect and wanted to see if I could pull off somthing comparable.

LOL. That flute was actually the closest thing I had to soprano sax in my arsenal of waveforms. But sax has a long history of being a difficult instrument to synthesize. But wow, another King Crimson reference. I really like where your head is at!

Nice implementation of panning, lively bass lines and some funk strumming and effective laughter adlib.
The laughter adlib came from an F/M clip I downloaded from AMT a few years ago of one of my favorite Lers, Chelsea...tickling some poor dude named Kenyatta. I have tons of these. I chose this one because if you listen closely, you hear her say, "I'm one of those girls with fingernails you were talking about."

I assume G-A...or so chord progressions....
Good ear! The first and third parts were mostly Gmaj7 - Am7. The second part was mostly Gmaj7 - D13.

Very professional stuff, Drew. Wish you could post the lyrics.

For you, anything. 😀

Makin People Laugh by drew70

Sure is easy makin' people laugh
Just the tips of her long fingers put me on my ass!
There is so many good things to say about this therapy.
I am so lucky to know a girl who takes such good care o' me.

I laugh while tears are streaming down my face.
And this girl just keeps on picking up the pace.
Every time she tickles me, it's cause she means it.
Every time she makes my pee, then she cleans it.

Her zeal's so real. She deals, I feel
Her zeal's so real. She deals, I feel every tickle!

I can tickle. He can tickle. She can tickle. We can tickle.
They can tickle. You can tickle.
Oh let's tickle. Can you tickle, baby?

I can tickle. He can tickle. She can tickle. We can tickle.
They can tickle. You can tickle.
Oh let's tickle. Are you ticklish, baby?

(shift)

Hi everybody! This is drew70 right here in our glorious nation's capital, Washington DC! Comin' at you with some retro rhythm and blues, you dig? So what say we put on our dancin' shoes and tighten up with some tickle funk!

I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)

There's a place I eat lunch every day.
Soon as I get there, the waitress wants to play.
I can't even eat my half-cooked meat.
Cause when she tickles, I go crazy!

I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)

(ticklish laughter break)

I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)

Waiting for the doctor, I doze off in a nap.
Along comes a cute nurse and sits right in my lap.
I can't hold still to take my pill,
Cause when she tickles, I go crazy!

I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing (Ohhh no!)
I just can't stop laughing

(shift)

My Mom-Mom told me...She said, "Son, please beware.
Girls are natural ticklers nd you are ticklish everywhere."

She said, "She can take you down,
(She can take...take you down)

And turn you into her 'lee'!"
(She can turn you into her ticklee)

Since I met this little woman, I feel that it's happened to me,

And I'm telling you

It's too late to turn back now.
I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm down under her.
It's too late to turn back now.
I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm a lee, and she is my Ler.

She tackles and tickle me at least ten time a day.
It's nonconsentual for her to carry on this way.

I can't sleep at night
(I can't sleep...sleep at night)

I'm wound up so freakin' tight!
(All this ticklin's got me wound up tight)

All my friends are telling me to get out, cause this ain't right.

But they don't know

It's too late to turn back now.
I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm down under her.
It's too late to turn back now.
I'm a lee! I'm a lee! I'm a lee, and she is my Ler.

(shift)

Older girl. Younger boy.
He becomes her tickle toy.
He may mind
But he endures because she looks so fine.

Any time. Anywhere,
Even when the people stare
She digs in
But still he loves her through his sufferin'

Oh oh, yes indeed we know
She may go fast. She may go slow
When tickling her man-slave.

Love is often cruel you know!
He still loves her even though she's
Tickling her man-slave.
Watch her tickling up her man-slave!

Whoa oh, yes indeed we know
She may go high. She may go low
When tickling up her man-slave.

Love is often filled with guile!
He still loves her even while she's
Tickling her man-slave!
Watch her tickling up her man-slave!

I'm laughing through it all, baby!
I'm squirming through it all, baby!
I'm screaming through it all, baby!
Yeah Yeah Yeah!

Fucking awesome!

Reminds me of this....and several others mixed in...

And the bir-ir-ir-irds dartin’ in and out of the trees

Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it’s real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it

Thanks, Jeff. How did I produce this? LOL, that's a slightly dangerous question to ask, because I could write pages.

It was all done with my computer, a couple of software programs, a Roland XV2020 Synth Module, a Berringer mixer, and a Shure microphone.

The song was MIDI-swquenced with a program called Cakewalk Pro Audio 7. I then recorded each digital audio track with another program called Cool Edit Pro, which comes with lots of effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, etc.

All of the tracks were quadrupled, then mixed down to submixes. It took me twelve attempts to get this particular mix. This song has nearly a hundred tracks built into it.

But I have to give credit where credit is due. I'd have never pulled this off without the invaluable assistance of my long time pal and TMF member, Nostradamas. He listened to several mixes and made crucial recommendations. He taught me about the concept of "dumping down" which helps to fatten up and give warmth to the tracks that really need it. The man is a genius, funny as hell, and the best friend a guy could ask for.

GRAZIN’ IN THE GRASS ~
You got it, Ray! Part one is a spoof of Grazin In the Grass by The Friends of Distinction. The original instrumental was by Hugh Masekela.

Can you identify the others? 😀

Jesus Christ, I guess your next song will be a love song? 😎

Seriously though, this is an amazing piece of work!

Given a little time I could pick a few more out...:happyfloa

Aww shucks.
Very nice work on the re-mix Drew.
Like they say, the thirteenth time's a charm.
You deserve all the credit.

😱

Holy Mother of Ticklephiles!!!

Drew, from one musician to another I have to say you ROCK!

Is it ok if I put this on my next installment of TMF-Radio? For that matter, can anyone of us put it on TMF-Radio?

Again, BRILLIANT WORK!

Well I guess you have to keep this discussion rolling until it can and we can exchange thoughts. I've been using Cakewalk/Sonar for quite a long while too (hopefully intermediate), complemented by some wav editors and relevant apps. I have to check Cool Edit... The dumping down concept must be the thing I lack. To achieve a little of that "fattened " tracks I use to trick it with the synths..like Edirol or the built in ones with Cakewalk, aside from the default patches, this synths paved way, but maybe you should really help me achieve this better, and who knows I might have other input...considering that what you have done is way advanced. No, I want more headache...my husband is used to it. 😱

I have full understanding how tough this has been put up...many sleepless nights because of the desire to experiment with output and the right blend with the complexities of digital effects laid to you...aside from the basic taming of MIDI itself...Ear...more ear!

I will be posting more...this is a very interesting thing to discuss.

Jeff pointed this thread out to me and I’m glad he did.

Drew70, that was absolutely amazing. I loved it. Everything, the lyrics, sound and production quality was top notch! I was blown away.

Thanks a lot Drew...It will need outright application than anything because of the too technical nature. Really thanks.

Just wanted to thank all of you who responded. Its very exciting and humblng when people really like what you do. The community has so many contributors of art and stories. Our library is most impressive. I'm just psyched that I can contribute something that people like. I offer the song freely with no restrictions or expectations. You can play it on TMF radio, or share it with anybody you like.

Well that's one great way to get a Golden Feather!!

Great stuff Drew!!!

The song is basically in four parts. Venray correctly identified part one as a spoof of Grazin in the Grass by the Friends of Distinction. Anybody recognize any of the other three parts?

Too Late to Turn Back Now....

Listen To What The Man Said (Wings & Paul Mccartney)

Just cant get the other........
You got Parts 3 and 4. Nice.

Part 2 comes from a combination of 2 very similar songs. "Tighten Up" and "I Can't Stop Dancing" both by Archie Bell & The Drells from Houston, TX. Part 3 is from a song called "Too Late Now" by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose. Part 4 is derived from "Listen To What The Man Said" by Paul McCartney & Wings.

Tighten Up - Archie Bell and the Drells

Hi everybody. I'm Archie Bell and the Drells from Houston, Texas. We don't
only sing but we dance just as good as we walk. In Houston we just started a
new dance called the Tighten Up. This is the music we tighten up to.

I Can't Stop Dancing - Archie Bell and the Drells

I just can't stop dancin' (No, no, no)

I just can't stop dancin' (No, no, no)
I just can't stop dancin'

There's a place I eat lunch every day
Soon as I get there, the jukebox starts to play
I can't even eat my lunch in peace
'Cause music makes me get out of my seat

I just can't stop dancin' (No, no, I don't wanna stop)
I just can't stop dancin' (No, no, no)

Music has a strange effect on me
It doesn't matter wherever I may be
Whenever I hear a drummer play that funky beat
I drop everything and get out of my seat

I just can't stop dancin' (Oh, no, I just can't stop)
I just can't stop dancin' (No, no, no)

Too Late Now - Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose

My mama told me, she said,
"Son, please beware.
There's this thing called love
And it's everywhere"

She tells me, "It can break your heart
And leave you in misery"
Ever since I met this little woman,
I feel it's happening to me, and I'm tellin' you

It's too late to turn back now.
I believe, I believe, I believe I'm fallin' in love
Oh, it's too late to turn back now.
I believe, I believe, I believe I'm falling in love

I found myself phoning her
At least ten times a day
You know, it's so unusual
For me to carry on this way. I'm tellin' you

I can't sleep at night.
I want you to hold me tight
I've tried so hard to convince myself
This feeling just can't be right, and I'm tellin' you

It's too late to turn back now.
I believe, I believe, I believe I'm fallin' in love
Oh, it's too late to turn back now.
I believe, I believe, I believe I'm falling in love

Listen To What the Man Said - Paul McCartney & Wings

Any Time, Any Day
You Can Hear The People Say,
But He Wont Mind, Well, I Don't Know
But I Say Love Is Kind

Soldier Boy Kisses Girl
Leaves Behind A Tragic World
But He Wont Mind, He's In Love
And He Says Love Is Fine

Oh - Yes, Indeed We Know
That People Will Find A Way To Go
No Matter What The Man Said
And Love Is Fine For All We Know
For All We Know, Our Love Will Grow
- That's What The Man Said
So Won't You Listen To What The Man Said

He Said . . . . .

Oh - Yes, Indeed We Know
That People Will Find A Way To Go . . .

Oh - Yes, Indeed We Know
That People Will Find A Way To Go . . .
Etc. Etc.

The Wonder Of It All Baby . . . . .
The Wonder Of It All Baby . . . . .
The Wonder Of It All Baby . . . . .

And there you have it.
