Ok, so I have a digital camera. I take videos, and then later on, I make mpeg files or like to take still shots.

Question: How do I get good, solid shots? My images appear to be blurry and well...just not too good. The video is fine; very clear. But freezing the video and getting still shots never comes out the way I want.

Can anyone lend a hand here? Does it have to do with a certain kind of video capture software? Is one superior to another? Are certain cameras better?

Are stills taked from vids supposed to be like that? I've noticed that some of you guys in your video companies have very clear pictures...what are you guys doing that I'm not??

I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer. I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how the people doin the videos take their still shots, but here's what I did, just for fun with an mpg file: Okay, I have Paintshop Pro 7...which comes with Animation Shop 3. Anyway, I found that I could open up video clips I made ( non-tickling..just regular fun stuff. lol ) in either program. I opened it up in the animation program...and there was each shot, frame by frame. If I moved the camera around alot, yeah,it woulda been blurry. But I'm usually able to keep it pretty still.

I don't know which program is the best for animation, though. One day I'll have a better idea when I load up my own computer with fun animation software. lol

I hope this heled a little bit.

If you want to pull clear stills out of video, the stills must be de-interlaced.

Basically (I'm trying to keep this in English and not in tech), the video lines intertwine with one another, and when you look at a video image, you're actually looking at two photos at the same time.

Because of this, when you simply freeze frame the video, you get that wierd stripey, blurry image.

If you're using Adobe Photoshop, there is a 'deinterlace' filter that should work nicely.

Thanks, I'll see what I can make happen with Photoshop.

And at the risk of sounding like a high school freshman...Pheobe, you are incredibly hot. 🙂
