I am utterly disgusted! It's finally happened. We letting people die on the street. We just pass them by and they die right there in front of us and we say to ourselves, "it's not my problem"!

Where is the helping hand? Where is the compassion and love for one's brother that once made this nation so great and wonderful? Are we becoming a society of ignorant intolerant people?

Are becoming, slowly but surely, what evil wishes us as a race to become? Please, remember to stop and give a fiver to the homeless man on the street looking in trash cans for bottles.

Please, help out in your local community, at the soup kitchens and shelters, whenever you can. Please, don't ignore the downtrodden and despairing. This is Rox_My_Sox making a call for all people on this wonderful forum to lend a helping hand to their communities.

After all, in a world filled with only self-concern there is no smiling. And no smiling equals no laughters. We all know what no laughter means right?

They say video games desesetice people of violence. But in reality humanity as a whole are having harder and harder honestly worrying about our fellow men. this can be seen in the news as almost everything their is nothing but bad news. after a while one would think that people getting run over or shot is part of everyday life. then there's the fact that human being are becoming less and less trusting. Today someone who is helps others without any reward are called fools cause they don't ask for anything for their services, and people that trust others are called gullible (just because one chooses to believe a stranger doesn't make them gullible).

finally it doesn't help that we have been brought up in a way that make you judge others before actually meeting them. Homeless for example. Whenever people see homeless they don't see a person that cause a bad luck went down, or a man that lost it all cause of disaster or maybe even robbery, they a crazy person that probably is a drug addict or an alcoholic and that the money you give him won't really be used for food.

Humans are falling deeper and deeper.

EDIT: I just want to add that I actually still have hope for humanity. One can easily fall down a hole, what really takes effort is climbing back up. People need to learn that you don't have to trample others to obtain happiness. I myself am one of those fools that enjoy helping others, and I'm obviously not alone or we would have already be extinct. But one man can't change the world (maybe 1/4 of it, but not all of it :3) all that you have to remember is that don't loose track of what you feel is right. Even when the world truly becomes a Dog eat Dog world, never change your views. They're few of us left already, so it be a tragedy if we lost more.

Have a great life folks, and lets make the best of our time by securing that what's to come is something to be proud of... :content:

Something tells me that you wanted to call them bastards, judging by the term, Bystandards....am I right?

If you are trained in CPR, try to save someone, and crack a rib that punctures a lung, you get sued for a lot. We have been trained not to help. If someone ran out to pull him out the road and paralyzed him, they would be paying for all of his medical insurance for the rest of his, possibly because of his age and injuries, short life.

It's not right, nothing about it is right, but, what if he had AIDS? Society as a whole is scared and useless. It's almost classic bystander effect, you hear about it normally once a year during spring break parties where a woman will get raped in broad daylight while people just watch.

I suppose I have a question behind all of this, what would you do? It's easy to be pissed off at people, it's easy to say that you would have jumped into the road to help him, but really, what would you do in that situation?

I like to think I'd stop traffic and call an ambulance. I know I wouldn't move him and I know I wouldn't try any first aid. I'd simply do my best to make sure nothing else happened to him until people got there who get paid to know how to take care of him. It's all I'd want for myself.

Oh I agree. I wouldn't dare move him. The point is NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY CALLED 911 RIGHT OFF THE BAT! In an age of technology with everyone having Cell Phones, you'd think someone would have called the freaking cops!

This poor man languished for up to an hour without any medical aid or treatment while people just ignored him. To answer Journia's question, HELL YES! THEIR GUILTY AS SIN FOR NOT GETTING THIS MAN HELP!

I feel we are slowly sliding into an age of unprecedented barbarism.

What? you mean we're still not their. What SilverleafLycan said reminded me of the Incredibles movie. How Mr. Incredible was sued by a man who attempted suicide cause hes neck was broken. I laughed at the part and found it was amusing, then I found out that that could really happened and I just laugh again (this time it was an empty laugh) People can be sued for SAVING LIVES was screaming in my head and then I understood just a little why the world is going down the john. When people that try to save a life is punished it's not going to encourage people to help other. I can just see it now, policeman saves child from falling debris, parents sueing policeman for not being gentle enough with their child and ended up with bruises.

Hmm... classical herd mentality here. This is something that is commonly seen in psychology: transfer of responsibility. In simplest terms, it comes down to this: the more people there are around a person in need of aid, the less likely they are to help him/her, because all the people expect others to react (thinking somebody will help).

I remember once in high school on a snowy day I was walking to school and some guy ran the light when I was crossing and brushed me with his car. It wasn't really that serious, although my knees were bruised pretty badly (thankfully I didn't notice at the time due to the tremendous pain my genitals were suffering, although that damage was superficial at best).

I guess I was lucky I didn't cross earlier and lose my life or balls or something, but he sure didn't stop, and nobody else stopped to see if I was okay, either.

Though as a minor consolation, some dude did honk. :/

This incident just shows how selfish people can be.

Reminds me of a bible story I once heard about a poor man mugged and left injuried by the road. People were hearltess then and they still are. it pains me to be aware that it's still true that people really don't care. You can only hope you're not part of them as well.

The world will keep getting worse and worse unless people start doing what they know is right in their heart - even one person can make a difference; and end up hopefully being a good Samaritan and not have the dog they saved turn around and bite them back in the arm (by suing them).
One person may not be able to save the world but it reminds me of this anthology: a bunch of starfish are washed up on shore and a little boy's picking up one starfish at a time and tossing it back.
A man thinks it's pointless since he can hardly make a dent with all the washed up starfish. He goes down and asks the boy, "Why are you doing this? You can't possibly change the world and save them all."
The little boy keeps picking up the starfish, unperturbed. He picks up one and says, "No. But it means the world to each starfish I can save." He tosses the starfish back into the sea and keeps going.
We're not to be ignorant, but definitely not calloused. If you see someone who's homeless offer them some food as there's the possibility that they may have been driven to drugs. If not, then give some change as doing nothing is the worst thing you can do. That's simply my two cents.

I find myself asking others the same thing frequently.I don't understand why others will not help eachother out.The only answers I usually get is:It's not my/your problem and you/I can't help them.I am also told I can't save the world but I believe that if everyone tried to help eachother out instead of just themselves and their family that maybe we can save the world. It may be true that one person can't save the world but what one person can't do several can.So if everyone would work togethor we can make a difference at the very least.

News article with photos here. I heard on the radio that four people actualy did call 911 within the first minute, but that detail did not appear in earlier reports.

Its stuff like this that makes me disgusted with the human race....then i have to face the fact I'm part of it too.
i can easily see something like that happening where i live seeing how in the last few years "Great Grimsby" could easily be passed off as Chavsville

I dunno... a community in Hartford, Conn. turns into gawking do-nothings, and that condemns the human race? Yeeeeah... I totally see how those few dozen individuals speak for the other 6 billion.

I also think it is quite comical, given how many people who condemn inaction (after only a minute) more than likely would not lend their services to help anyways.

It is also worth noting that the sort of help people are crying for would involve moving the man, which is a big issue in cases of major accidents like this. What sort of help are civilians supposed to do?

Don't discount the fact that there are also plenty of people who do stunts like these to get laughs or crowd reactions on television. So even if you help, you may be only playing into a Jackass game.

There are plenty of reasons people did not help, some right and some wrong. But it is quite erroneous to assert that this incident damns the entire race. Again, what were they supposed to do? They called 911. He did not lay in that road for fifteen minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this action alone condemns man kind (I'll wait until the Pale Rider arrives before I start condemning humanity) But it's situations like these, especially in the way that things are reported that show that many have been taught to not get involve in others problem I know that all here would at least call the ambulance, But in your head their is something saying, it's not your problem, just keep going. and most have decided to follow it.

P.S. for anyone that has actually read my replies and is confuse at what I'm getting, I apologize. I always have found it hard to write how I feel. Sometimes I don't even now what I mean or if the right impression is there

Damn media f*ck ups.

Of course someone called 911! And even more, it is a common First aid advice, to LEAVE an injured, passed out victim right were they are, because if you start touching them or dragging them around, you might wound them even more due to broken bones that penetrate the organs or tissue, and internal bleedings that grow even larger if severly moved.

I think by calling 911 and leeving the poor man were he was, they helped him more then they could. They could have checked his breath, but still, i think they didn't ''ignore'' him just to let him die.

A few years ago, I rear-ended a car on my motorcycle. I flew over the car and landed 20 feet in front of it. Did a spectacular, although unintentional, 540˚ flip with a half twist and landed on my shoulder... pretty much rolling forward and almost ending back up on my feet. In the 10 seconds it took for me to get my bearings, people were already blowing their horns and passing in the outside berms of the road and leaving po'd. Some people got their phones out and were snapping pics and vids. And less than 3 minutes later, the ambulance and police showed up.

Several people had called it in. Others sat in their car just wanting to see what was going on. I don't think everyone who didn't call was malicious or ignorant. I just think some people are quicker to action than others. Some people don't know what to do in an emergency situation. I can safely say my own mother is more likely to stand there with her hands over her mouth in shock than to rush over and get involved or think to call.

Having said that, I don't think the world is full of a-holes... I think they're spread out and we all live near a couple.
