OK Guys, I was on pornotube browsing and had to download the "latest shockwave plugin". I thought, 'no problem, I've done this before'....

and wound up with a thing called VirusHeat. I searched it and discovered it puts fake windows on the start bar that gives fake security alerts to make you think you need to d/l other stuff.

I d/l'd something ELSE to get rid of THAT, (something other than what the thing suggested), and it seems to have worked, but I'm STILL getting porno popups (and NOT tk), having IE freeze up on me, no search engine works, random security warning popups that have no root in Windows (as far as I know) and sometimes whatever program I'm running (usually IE) pops up so many that it crashes my computer.

I have Spybot, HijackThis, and AVG--none of these have caught the problem.

Ditching IE and grabbing a new browser like Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or the Safari Beta will do a great deal to help you. HijackThis is NOT a virus remover. It only tells you about some installed things (Mostly related to IE). What you need to do with it is run a scan and post the log here. I can look at it and see what nasties you have installed.

Additional tools to try are Lavasoft's Ad-Aware for antispyware, and either the free Antivir or avast! antivirus applications. I can give links for all but I assume here you can at least use the Google without too much trouble.

NOTE: Only have one antivirus program running at any one time. If more than one is running it can crash your computer. I suggest installing a new one and then promptly uninstalling the old.

I really like Ad-Aware. It is a great tool for removing crap you don't want and is slowing down or messing up your computer.

in deep scan with avg, nod32, or any good antivirus will do the trick.

You need to rn spy sweeper,Ad Aware and Trend Micro Anti Virus. Then you need to delete or quarantine the file you downloaded. Then if need be restart your computer and DON'T RETURN TO THAT SITE AGAIN.

I'd get Stopzilla from stopzilla.com, but you have to buy it. I think it costs about $50. I think it's worth it though.

If you buy it use it to scan your whole hard drive. It should find the problem(s).

EDIT:OK, now I have ten minutes to explain what happened.

Here's what happened [/Monk]

A few months back, my computer tech installed adaware onto my computer--and this weekend he told me I didn't need it and, without consulting me first, took it OFF. At first I just thought he was being abrupt, but now I'm beginning to suspect he did it to scam me into paying him more. This afternoon I'm going to re-download adaware and possibly install mozilla--I'm definitely taking your advice and using bleepingcomputer, Val. Thank you all again for your advice, and I'll keep you guys posted!

I use NOD 32, Spysweeper and use Mozilla Firefox as my engine of choice. My computer used to be riddled with viruses. (excess of 150 at one point) I haven't experienced anything that has provided the grief you have experienced and I know all so well. The best thing I can recommend, on top of all the fantastic advice previously mentioned:

Steer clear of Internet Explorer, all of my previous problems were related to that and I can't even use it without getting bombed. Firefox will be your best friend!
