Hello there!
I just bought Hitman II - Silent Assassin and I think it is one of the best action-games ever released. But I live in Germany and this game wont be available for long because of it's mature content. What do you think about brutality in videogames? I think it isnt bad, it's just realistic. Is green blood realistic? Or metal instead of flesh? I would really like to hear your opinion!

TNO, I don't play video games anymore, but I'll chime in here, since no else has. I've never believed that video games actually cause kids to become violent in real life. If you want to ban video games that have mature content, you might as well ban movies that contain a lot of sex or violence, too. As long as parents are responsible and don't let their teenage children play those games too much, and no one under a certain age is allowed to play them, I don't have a problem with them. Most kids know the difference between fantasy and reality. If they didn't, there would be a lot more Columbine-type shootings and the like. Just my 2. 🙂

Personally, I don't care for games where the point is simply to run around and shoot everything. However, I feel that those types of games have just as much right to be out there as the ones I do enjoy. Regarding censorship, it bothers me to see people blaming everything but themselves for what their kids do. My belief is that a child who shoots someone because they saw it in a movie (as an example) is one whose parents relied primarily on television to raise their kid. As for Columbine, that happened for a reason, but not many people bother to examine it. It's much easier to say "There's something wrong with those kids." and end it there. Those kids were picked on. And if what I've seen during my high school years is any indication, it was more than just name-calling and teasing. Some of the stuff is despicably cruel. Do I think that shooting those who picked on them was an appropriate course of action? Of course not. But they apparently did. And I'm sorry, but I cannot feel sympathy for the "victims". Maybe not justified, but the term "consequence" still applies to it.

Sorry I went a little off topic, there.

I fully agree with you, maverick. Personally, I don't like violent, destructive games, but if others like them - okay with me.

I do think that some kids are easier to be influenced by such games, but the age of consent is no sure-fire remedy for that. I can't imagine the Washington sniper to be a kid, for example.

Instead of banning such games, the governments should concentrate on providing better education for kids, and more support for people who take the time and effort to raise their kids. A better living for families who care! :cool2:
