I drew the original lines, but mentioning right away that the amazing colorwork was done by Scamwich.
From the 'Killer Instinct' fighting series (KI 2 in arcades and its N64 port KI Gold) comes this action-packed bit of fanart, featuring the Amazon queen and warrioress Maya. I've always liked Maya for a variety of reasons and she was definitely my favorite character to play in KI2 (got quite good using her). Of course, I always love the 'amazon' type of characters too, so that of course helped.

Made queen of the land of Amazonia after her part in banishing the dark lord Gargos. Cast out by her tribe as Gargos returns, Maya must vanquish him to regain her throne.

Again, I liked Maya from the get-go pretty much, nice design (some obvious reasons), good playstyle...but geez, that top that her sprite wore has to be one of the most painful looking tops I've ever seen in a a video game. <: Then again the sprites/models in KI2 weren't exactly...good anatomy. 😛 I somewhat, ah, made her body a bit more 'normally proportioned' even with this crazy view in this pic.
Anyway, felt like doing some artwork of this mostly forgotten character/series and came up with quite a 'actiony' bit of posing. ^^ Even not counting the obvious dynamic perspective on this move, I really enjoy how this came out of a fanart of Maya as a whole.
Story-wise...I guess consider the POV as that of a trespasser into the Amazonia jungles. And the invader's punishment emerges from the dark canopy above in the form of a beauty dropping feet first from the branches with her giant daggers drawn...
...Maya DID have quite a few kicking moves, including a handspringing double-leg dive called the Jungle Leap, which somewhat ended like this. 🙂
Speaking of the 'emerging from the darkness', I have to thank and very much give props to Scamwich for his fantastic bit of color and lighting that he added to my original drawing here. ^^
He put some neat contrast here. Basically the 'scene' is in the jungle with its generally heavy canopy of trees and branches enshrouding the ground underneath in deep shadows. However, here and there small pockets and beams of sunlight are able to penetrate to the floor. 'You' just walked into one and, being exposed, look up to see the point of impact (that being Maya's bare sole) surging from the shadows into the bright light just a moment before it's too late. And I doubt the fierce looking amazon is going to sheath those blades peacefully after her kick lands. 😉

Also hope it's a good fanart of Maya overall too (beyond typical reasons, I just love how the pose came out), it's a damn shame that we're very unlikely to see another Killer Instinct or especially Battletoads game due to what happened to Rare years ago.
