Medical Community Question

Is it just me, or are people in the miedical community arrogant or lacking common sense? I'm 19 and everytime I call the damn DR's office the receptionist is like "Let me speak to one of your parents." Then she makes up some excuase like she has to ask them a question about their insurance or someting and they wind up talking about me. My parents and DR and his staff know how I feel about this. Also, it's not just his office, when I went to have the tubes put in my ears the staff there did the same exact thing.

Don't take it personally, the receptionists are like the gatekeepers, mostly cause the docs like to reem them if they get bothered. Plus you're 19 and stuck in that "they can't possibly know anything" stereotype. Either way, it'll pass. I'm 23, 12 months from BEING a DR and they do the same thing to me! LOL

It's been my experience that alot of medical office staff are,shall we say,subpar.I've already had to do their paperwork for them,tell them how to do others,and repeatedly call to see that test results were faxed.

Considering that they do have schools for medical office training, one has to wonder.

I'm 51, and I still get the 20 Questions routine from the flunkies who answer my doctor's phone.

Fortunately, at my age I'm allowed (and even expected) to be a curmudgeon. I ask them, "Are you licensed to practice medicine?" When they say No, I tell them I want to talk to someone who is, AND complain to the doctor if the flunky gives me any more shit. Works for me...
