Something I just noticed. On the front page of the forums, it says there are 45,278 registered members. But going into the member list, it says there's only 2,054. However, only people with ten posts, it seems, are in the members list. Are there really 43,224 lurkers here? That's... kinda sad.

It's sorta like "Thirteen Ghosts." They're there, but you've gotta put on those special glasses to see 'em.

LOL 😀

Yeah, I realised this too, though, when I started my failed "Lurker of the Week" campaign. I had to wait until a lurker came online (all of 2 seconds) before I could choose one.

Its really just a giant game of hide and seek.

We just have to find them all one by one.

Come out, come out where ever you are.

the hollywood brothee wishes these people would post more

I'm beginning not to care whether they post or not or why they don't. In fact, I don't care, and the majority of them are leechers anyway, here only for the material. Lurkers are essentially non-persons. Their anonymous ambiguity is their business and they choose their station here.

We should, instead, keep the focus on eachother and our dealings and entertainment. That we know for sure, and at least with that we're not wasting our time.

If they want to come out and play, they will, but we shouldn't stand around scratching our heads wondering why, when they don't. Theres nothing fascinating about a lurker.

Let the sleeping lurkers lie, guys.
They lurk. They probably have a good reason to.
Do not question the reasons of the lurkers.
Maybe they are scared by you.
Maybe they could scare you.

When are you no longer considered a lurker? What if you post seemingless replies just so that you're not considered one of them but actually contribute nothing? Does that make you any better or worse?... I'm not talking about me of course... just someone I know..

In this particular case, when you strike 10.
When you post the tenth message, you become a full-fledged member.

On a larger basis...
I wouldn't know.
I don't judge people by the amount of traffic they generate.
I gauge them by the sense they make in their posts.

😉

So 1 in 20 are active members. Should compare that number to other similar statistics just for fun, like how many Americans actually vote.

But I'll echo the sentiments of a few others here, let the passive remain passive and the active remain active.

As for Kal..judging those by how much sense they make? Such standards!!

Well... how much sense they make... to me!

😀

I like the lurkers...yes, we should let them be, as we all have our reasons for posting or not posting...the ties that bind us (no pun intended here) to this site are of such an incredibly personal nature, as we all know...so how can we judge our own for quietly enjoying the same things as the more outspoken among us?

Personally, if there are 45,000+ people viewing this site consistently, lurker or not, that makes me feel 1) incredibly proud to be a member of such a large and diverse community, and 2) a lot more "normal" about my tastes if there are that many other people out there coming here for the same reasons I do...

Savor every flavor of our community...let the lurkers be!!!

*steps off of soapbox*

So that's why you never liked me...

I agree with Camel and Kal. I say let the lurkers be. And it does make me feel more normal now that I know that so many others enjoy and/or have the same fetish I do. Now if only I could find people to be interested in the other hundreds of twisted and kinky things I like to do...

But yeah. I like the lurkers. ^_^

Yeah, but I like that ferret thing in your sig - although the colours makes me dizzy - and the dancing wizard sprite from your avatar.

Hey, it's 2/3.
It ain't bad.

😀

The Ninja Mithral Oracle has pondered your question deeply.
Then flipped out and had to have some bland unmenacing grape jello just to cope with the burden of it all.

Exactly. If you're going to give someone the power to decide for you whether something is ruined for you simply by what they, as an individual said, in what is a group discussion, then its your own fault for not accepting it. To be perfectly honest.

Trying to chide or scold the person is a waste of time if they really did nothing wrong or intended to to begin with. So you just ignore them and carry on, not draw attention to what you felt was an interuption....as by doing that, you're the one interupting the pace of the thread, not them, by taking time out to correct a person when it may not be entirely necessary to begin with.

If the person feels accosted by your reaction, which is a high probability if others start making similar comments, they'll most likely respond and you'll end up with something you didn't intend or want.

When I started here, I would have been what you classified as a "lurker", since I wasn't a big fan of posting. The reason being is because I used to check out the TMF most often, back when it was more open to the public then it is now. I don't remember how I found TT, prolly a search or a link from TMF, but when I registered...I did it only for the clips. After a while of reading a lot of the posts and the topics, I decided to "jump on the bandwagon" and start posting. I still check out the Vidclip Corner with dilligence but instead of just checking clips, I post then check clips.
