This question is for those of you who are either in the military or watch the show 'Futureweapons' on the Military Channel. Which weapons do you think would be the most effective and helpful to our troops?

I think some of the best weapons would be the AA-12 Automatic Shotgun, the AS-50 Sniper Rifle, the Bangalore Blade, the MP-7 Submachine Gun, and the Aardvark.

Now wait dang minute, here! How is an aardvark(pictured below) going to help us in the War on Terror? Can they sniff out roadside bombs or something?

Dragonskin body armor is one of the few really solid developments the show futureweapons has covered, in my opinion.

In the assault rifle and assault carbine categories I would choose a single contender: the Tavor TAR-21. An Israeli bullpup design based on the same stoner internals the US military knows and loves, but with the majority of the problems corrected.

In the SMG and PDW categories I would not suggest the P90 or the MP7. While both are strong shows, neither are particularly impressive by the standards the Russians are setting with entries like the PP2000. My choice here would be the CBJ Modular System. The british had their eyes on it for a span, and it looks to be coming along nicely. I should certainly say it would be prudent to wait until the final product hits the market for conclusions to be drawn.

Anti-material rifles in Barrett's .416 caliber seem like a good idea, the problem being that the M99 is the only one available right now and I have no reliable information on it.

Of course, the best investment for our military future would be good foreign relations. After all, if you have no enemies you never need to fight them. 😉

Not that kind of aardvark! There is a new military vehicle with rotating chains called the Aardvark. Soldiers can drive it through a mine field and destroy the mines to make it safe for others to navigate the field on foot. I have no idea why it's called the Aardvark cuz it doesn't resemble an actual aardvark at all.

That DOES sound promising!

BTW- I seriously want one of those AA-12 Automatic Shotguns, now. Should prove quite handy vs the impending zombie hordes.

Make all your silly weapons, war all you like against the god, but in the end we all lose. Weapons are not killing peoples, murderers are. I detest war because it is mainly used as a last resort of the 'people above us'. They play with our live and give us weapons. Try one of those weapons, be affected with adrenaline as you vanish a vast collection of memories and emotions, in a single second. With this I finish my post, for I detest weapons of present or future.

I still think that the venerable AK-47 is one of the finest short-range battle rifles ever created, and I would feel very well-protected with one in a battle situation. I have also read that Israeli special forces are said to favour it over their own Galil (which was based on the AK-47).

The Aardvark is hardly what I'd call a future weapon. 😉 The US Army has fielded flail tanks since WWII.

Yeah. The AK-47 is one of the best weapons ever created. It's about as accurate as any assault rifle can get. It was even ranked as #1 on a show called 'Top 10 Combat Rifles' with the M16 following it at #2. It's a shame nobody uses the AK-47 these days. Well, nobody I know at least.

it should be noted that the AA-12 is zombie certified for the fight in killing the undead in WWZ. btw, the compact high speed firing .45 cal submachinegun they got now looks promising.

over 60 years and still beloved. hell, in Vietnam, when the M-16 came out, it jammed like crazy, so soldiers would throw it down and pick up enemy ak-47's to use.

just a re-invention of an old reliable vehicle, slapped with a fresh coat of paint and a new name. Reminds me of Halo's Warthog.

whilst the AK47 is a fine weapon, it has some major flaws that make inpractical for the modern warrior. It's accuracy is a big issue - It has an accurate range of say 200 yards and armies want an assualt rifle that can be used at mid-long ranges and still be compact enough to be used in the urban environment - hence the introduction of the M4 and bullpup assualt rifles.

Future weapons once did a great piece on the Hecklar and Koch 416 - a highly reliable and accurate M4 variant that can be modified in a very short period of time - for example in just 2 minutes they were able to change to parts so the gun no longer resembled a 5.56mm M4, but a 7.62mm sniper rifle. They also did sand and water tests where the host buried the gun in sand and drenched it with water and not once did the weapon fail due to it's unique internal design.

WWZ and the Zombie Survival Guide does provide some promising info. Plus, thats why I live in the country with a 5 acre clear field of fire around the house.
🙂

Glorfication of weapons...what idolization is that?

Though admitly the only weapons I perfer to be improved are ones that keep everyone from harm, like that land mind driller and the sound wave gun. Undoubtly improvement is always inevitable.

But honestly all these new weapons are just improving the amount of death and destruction they can wrought on the enemy. I don't sympathise with their reasons, only that they are still human. You can only hope that these weapons become mainstream outside military but that too is impossible.

I guess what i'm saying...they shouldn't really broadcast that stuff on PUBLIC TELEVISION!!!

I think the best bet would be that Barret (i dont its thats its real name tho), anti-vehicle sniper rifle, i think they are allready using it right ? 50 cal ? But some kind of improved M4-like assault rifle would be awesome for the troops. As for the Ak-47 or the M16, is hard decision to me, since both have that nostalgic feeling only the cold war could have spawned 😀 , but i will have to vote for the M16 since i consider is way more reliable, but the ak-47 has that sexy old school revolutionary feeling hehe.
