Ross saw the text from Steve, excused himself, walked out of the room, and called Steve.
"Steve, I have a serious problem. Kayley was mugged, and hit over the head. She's in the hospital for observation. Kayley's mother and sisters are here with me. As I'm sure you understand, with my extreme concern about Kayley, there is no way I can leave now. The only way I could do this, would be to excuse myself for an hour or two, go to the office and or home, set up and do a call, and go up to Toronto next week when Kayley is back on her feet, or the whole thing is going to have to be put off" Ross said.
"Ross, I'm so sorry about Kayley. Let me call the guys from Toronto and tell them that you cant leave New York because your wife is ill. We dont have to tell them specifics. If they can do a conference call, fine. If not, then just wait until next week. Kayley's health and both yours and Kayley's piece of mind are most important" Steve said, in a very understanding tone.
"Thanks, partner. Call anytime. Right now, I just have to be here for the VP" Ross said, as the men hung up.

Kayley said. "Let me guess, it was Steve and you have to go to Canada"
Ross kissed Kayley lightly. "Yes, VP it was in fact Steve, but I am not going anywhere. I told Steve that you were mugged, and that I have to stay here with you for a while. Either the guys in Canada do a conference call, or the whole thing is postponed. No one and nothing are more important to me than you" Ross said.
"Partners for life. I may not always like you, Ross C, but I will love you forever" Kayley said.
Ross squeezed Kayley's hand. "The same goes for me, VP"
As the night went on, the nurse came.
"One person can stay with Kayley. The rest have to leave, and can come back in the morning"
"Ross, please go home. I will stay with my daughter. You look like you're spent" Diane , Kayley's mother said.
"Are you sure, Diane? " Ross said.
Diane took Ross's hand. "Ross, other than you and Kayley snipping about your business choices, I know that both of you are devoted to each other. I dont need you getting sick. Please go home" Diane said.
Ross looked at Kayley. "Is that okay, Kale?"
Kayley smirked. "Of course. This way I can get some sleep. Dont worry. If I cant sleep. I will text"
Ross kissed Kayley. "Text or call anytime. I will be back in the morning. Goodnight everyone" Ross said.
Ross got into an Uber, discarded his clothes, and slept in his boxers on the living room sofa. Ross had a migraine. He took his calming meds, and sleep meds. Ross tossed, turned, and did not sleep much.
The next morning, Ross called Kayley. "Good morning. How do you feel?"
"A bit better. Ah, if you want to run by the office. You dont have to sit here and look at me all day. They have to give me a couple of more tests" Kayley said.
"I will just pop by there to check a couple of things, and will be there by early afternoon at latest. Once I come back to Queens, I will just come home, or stay with you. I;m not going back into the city"
Ross said.
"Okay, you do your thing. See you later" Kayley said.
Ross called Timothy. "Tim, you know that Kayley was mugged. I'm flat out worn out. I need to check something in Canada., Can Vic possibly help you so that I can arrange my thoughts for a couple of days, or do we have to do this now?" Ross asked.
"I know you have a lot on your mind. Screw it. I will tell the people that my manager is out of town. When Kayley is home, we will discuss it" Tim said.
"Thanks, I may well have to run to Canada for a day or two if I have not collapsed from worry by then. We will work it out" Ross said.
Ross dressed in jeans, went to the office, and texted Steve.
"They can do a call early evening tomorrow, like 5, so I made it. Unless Kayley is in bad shape, we need your presence" Steve said.
"I will be present unless something unforeseen happens. Thanks. As for when I actually go to Canada, let everything calm down first" Ross said.
"Right, please tell VP that Mister P and his wife send their prayers." Steve said.
"Thanks, I will" Ross said.
Ross showered, threw on jeans, and went into the office.
As Ross sat at his desk, his head began to hurt.
Ross was sure it was from worry, lack of sleep, and maybe the weather.
Ross popped his migraine meds, read reports, and tried to distract himself.
By two pm, Ross left the office. He went to the hospital.
Kayley smiled at Ross, seeming much better.
"They said I can go home tomorrow if we have a nurse there. I'm much better. I might sleep in my own space to avoid temptation for either of us" Kayley said.
"The only temptation I have is to kiss you forever Thanking Heaven that you're okay" Ross said.
"Ross, Canada?" Kayley started.
Ross sighed. "Kale, please dont worry about that. Steve and I have a conference call with them tomorrow. They know that my wife is ill. I am not going anywhere until at least next week. When you feel all better, and can go back to work, or close to it, I will think of going" Ross said.
"Okay" Kayley said.
Ross and Steve did the conference call with the people from Canada. The call went well, and everyone agreed that Ross would come there when Kayley was out of the woods.
The next day, Kayley was released from the hospital.
A nurse accompanied Ross and Kayley home.
Kayley was settled into a hospital bed in the living room, and Ross went into the bedroom with the door open.
In the evening, disaster struck.
Suddenly, Kayley's head began to throb.
The nurse tried pain medication, but it was not helping.
"Ross, I'm sorry to say, that something is wrong. I suggest that we call 011, and take Kayley to the hospital at least to see" The nurse said, seriously but calmly.
Ross was shaking. "O okay, please just do what you have to" Ross said.
"Then he said. "Kale, I'm here. I am right beside you"
Then, at the worst of all possible times, another terrible event occurred.
The fear and worry about Kayley, and lack of sleep, caused Ross to have a seizure! Ross fell down, and passed out!
"Ross! Ross! Oh My God No!" Kayley screamed.
The nurse called her nursing company
"We have a serious situation here. Ross and Kayley are both very sick. Ross passed out from either a fainting spell or perhaps a seizure. The EMS is coming now, and we are all going back to the hospital!" The nurse said, trying to stay calm, but clearly upset
What was Kayley's exact condition?
What did happen to Ross?
Was it a blackout/fainting spell from exhaustion and worry, or was it in fact a serious seizure?
All of those dramatic questions would be seen and answered.
