This is sort of a pet peeve thread. Something that's not a big deal, but just irritates the hell out of you. I have a pet peeve about bad grammar, mispronounced word and (supposedly) educated people who grew up speaking english screwing up the language
There's 2 examples I can think of, off the top of my head;
1) LackSadaisical. There's no such word. It's Lackadaisical. There's only one s. I've even heard people say "Lacksydaisy" which again is not a word. You won't find it in any dictionary.
The reason I'm so bothered about this word, is that yesterday I actually heard a sports talk show host describe a basketball player as "being "occasionally lacksadaisical". WTF? This guy speaks, and communicates for a living, he's college educated, and he thinks there's 2 s's in lackadaisical? It's bad enough when a coworker, or friend says it, but when a radio announcer who's required to have a command of the english language makes that mistake, it's inexcusable. At least he didn't say Lacksydaisy. I guess maybe because it's not a word that's used very often, but when it is used, it's almost always butchered
2) Although I don't hear this particular made up word very often these days, it always bothered me when people used to say "Conversate", as in having a conversation. Again, no such word. If you're having a conversation with someone, you "converse" with them. You don't "conversate". Just like when you provide information to someone, you "inform" them, you don't "informate"
There's other's like how people online or on texts can't tell the difference between there, their and they're, but are there any verbal slip ups you guys hear everyday that just drive you nuts?
