Maybe the astronomers of the forum can answer this question better than I can:
Has anyone ever noticed the wild swings in time over a span of just a few days, of the moon rise and moon set? Other than the "Land of the Midnight Sun", sunrise and sunset are usually.. a minute or two.. earlier and later each day, with.. at least in the case of New York.. only a four hour difference between times of sunset in winter and summer.
With the moon, it seems that it often rises and sets about a half hour later each day. On some nights the moon is visible all night, while on others, it isn't visible at all, even when not cloudy, or a "new moon", and instead, the moon rises in the sky during the day.
I'm well aware of the "Midnight Sun" in some parts of the world, where the sun doesn't set for several months. I just have often wondered why there are such wild swings in the moon rise and moon set times. This morning, I was able to see a big full moon setting around 6am NY time. Tomorrow it will set a half hour later, and may be obscured by the sun which will have already risen.
Thoughts on moon rise and set, and the wild swings in time of such over just a few days?
