From issue #10 of Supergirl. In this issue, Kara tries to go to high school, but the experience is more trying than ever, mostly because she dresses up like her cousin Kal's secret identity, Clark Kent, and gets snickered at. As for the pictures...

The first is of Supergirl and Wonder Girl stopping Monsieur Mallah of the Brotherhood Of Evil; the second, third and fourth are of her in her Clark Kent-ish identity hosting a slumber party. Unfortunately, it dosen't go too well....

Man I hope my Comic guy got this in my pull. Not just for this but I've been enjoying the series of this Kara more, oh so much more then the last one. One is simply cause she is a real kryptonian and not some clone/purple goop/sex toy made by Luthor to piss Supes off about the pair being an item.

I have to say though, the color job done in the 3rd pic really does look bad, the gal looks to have an extra wide left food there.

The first one is really cute....it's too bad she has two left feet.

Same thing happened back when I was still at DC, there was a Guy Gardner cover with a cutie on the cover playing chess on the floor. She had both feet back and was dangling a shoe. She had two of the same foot then also.

I always was AMAZED editorial ever got anything right.

I guess Mr. Churchill makes mistakes too

That's why I'm a Benes fan LOL

Its kind of irritating to see stuff like that, mistakes with two left or right feet, I mean. You wonder what was going through their mind, if anything, when they make errors like that. Seeing professionals screw up like this will never settle in with me. I guess until I make the same mistake, I won't understand how something so visually obvious is overlooked or a mistake is made in the first place.

They're professionals. They're supposed to be paying attention to what they're doing. When they do things like this it makes them look lazy or unattentive or like they're not focusing or giving 100%, and I guess thats just one of my pet peeves now, I guess. Even when amateurs makes these kinds of mistakes it bothers me a little. I just don't see how it goes by without them noticing.

These things happen especially when you're on a tight deadline. Artistically, he was going for the angled toe look and thought he had it. He got confused with the crossed leg. The real problem is that it wasn't caught in editorial or sooner. Pencils get approved, then its on to inks. That's approved then on to color. Once the book is finished, you have color proofs, what's called a make ready copy and a last chance copy to make corrections. It wouldn't have taken much to make a patch in production.

Every now and then on Catwoman I'd find an error or something that would need to be tweaked like a missing strap from one panel to the next. If the book was on schedule, (books are done about 3 months ahead in a good month) a patch could have been put on the art and a new plate shot. That was a small thing and we'd do it when possible. Something this bad should have been fixed. No excuse.

I should have gone after that editorial job years ago, but I just couldn't see myself in NY. A good foot man could keep an eye out for these things. 🙂

If you ever see a set of Lady Death trading cards, there are several swimsuit cards. More than one have two of the same feet.

Slack slack slack.

As for the question about being professional, we have to cut them some slack. The vast majority of comic artists out there are overworked and underpaid. Deadlines are forever getting bumped up and the pressure for a book to ship on time is pretty great. Most fans don't realize if a book ships late it's automatically returnable. This can cost a publisher a ton of money in returned funds. I used to be in awe of the big companies in NY and thought it was a perfect business until I got there. Once I got used to dealing with editorial and the day to day BS that frankly HAS to go on, it's a miracle books actually come out on a monthly basis.

It isn't a question of not being professional and not caring, it's more of a question of too much coffee, no sleep, and a 14+ hour day.

Gotta meet that quota.

I'm well aware of the conditions they work under; manga artists in Japan have it much worse.

Its just that meticulousity is one of my strong points (sometimes to a fault), as an artist. I feel that this sort of thing would never happen to me, even under pressure, so to see a professional screw up in such a big way (I'm not talking minor things, we're talking about two left feet) is something definitely noticable. I have high standards on the subject, and I don't think its unfair for me and others to expect some of these things from the professionals at least (afterall, if anyone can meet most standards it would be the professionals). Fortunately, things like this don't happen very often from what I've seen, so its more like a fluke when it does happen.

I do sympathize with their situations, though. Sometimes (alot of the time) they have to give less than 100% and its not their choice to. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines. This is one of the aspects of the business which keeps me away from it as a potential career (I'd much rather produce my work without the stresses of a studio or company). If I have to hold back and I can't deliver the way I'd like to just to make a deadline, then the job is bitter-sweet.

Oh, you guys! The colour job isn't so bad, it looks like the shadows and light of someone in a closed space. And the foot's okay to me. Thank you all for your comments, anyway.
