For those who have X Boxes (or a roommate with one)
I have to say the upcoming game Mech Assault is definitely on par if not better (dare I say) than Halo.
My brother works for ign.com and has a box that can play Xbox games in their playtest stage so he can write the reviews in time for the release or just before the release to the general public.
First off Mech Assualt is really easy to get a handle on its controller. The two "thumb" joysticks move your mecha or rotate its toros, one of the trigger buttons switches between weapons and the other fires. The x button (I believe) is your jump button and that is pretty much IT! Within a minute of playing I was pretty confident at controlling the mech and blowing up targets.
The graphics and sound are out of this world. You can kick vehicles out of your way, step on troops (nice blood squishy sounds and graphics), and fend off nasty frickin Elementals who climb all over you.
Mech Assault is designed so you can play multi-player (can't remember how many can do a mission) and fight each other in combat situations. But best of all it is designed to work with the new X-Box live.
X-Box Live comes out the same day as Mech Assault. It is $50 and you get a 1 year subscription to boot. Just boot up and hook up your DSL line and you're online!
You can have a buddy list so that if you're playing your regular scenario and you're hooked up online it will notify you if friends are around and they can either join you or you can join them.
That extra slot on your controller, always wondered what that was for? Well with Xbox Live you can get (comes with your starter kit) a headset. With the headset you can talk to your buddies as you fight the good (or bad) fight. Not only that but there is a selective mute feature. Let's say you're blowing away in team arena combat and some bozo is just annoying the hell out of you talking about his Pokemon Porn collection. Use selective mute so you don't have to listen to his or her ramblings.
If you're an Xbox fan save up your money or do all the dishes and wash the cat and dog for that great hannukah/christmas present!
For 1-8 Players.
