Ok, another movie thread - what films did the entire planet like, but YOU hated?

Again, I'll start.

Princess Bride. Mildly amusing, but also pretty tedious. I liked it in passing, but people are obsessed with this thing!

All About Eve. Twice I have not been able to finish this. To me, this is the B&W old movie that gives the other old B&W movies the reputation that they're all boring. Yet somehow it's one of the most famous & favorite old movies. "Buckle up - you might fall out of your seat if you nod off...."

Ace Ventura. Either of them. WTF? When I was doing in high school all the same stuff Mr. James Carrey did in these movies, it was funny THEN. And I didn't get $20 million for it.

And how did Friday spawn two sequels?

Shakespeare in Love.

Attack of the Clones.

Gladiator.

Cheers.😀

I hated, hated, hated, hated "Gladiator". I can't see why anyone enjoyed it!

That and "The Replacement Killers"

Mullholland Drive

As Good As It Gets

Jerry Maquire

Blade Runner

Phantom Menace AND the Clone Wars (though Yoda/Grover kicking ass was almost worth my $7.50)

ET (Hey don't just phone home - go back and stay there!)

I was bored to tears with both The Color of Money and Cocktail - both starred Tom Cruise.
I like some of Cruise's stuff - IMHO Top Gun was terrific, Mission Impossible was pretty good, and Risky Business was okay, so it's not that I object to all of his work.

"Something About Mary". A gaggle of people, including a close friend of ours just bubbled about how funny this picture was. So, Mrs. Knox and I rented it. We sat, and watched, and looked at each other when all the toilet and body fluid and mangled manhood scenes passed by, with dismay. When it ended, I reached for the phone, and called that close friend, leaving a message on her machine saying, "that was the dumbest effing movie I ever saw, how could you possibly think that was funny? What is the matter with you?"
I watched ten minutes of Austin Powers, which one is irrelevant. Maybe not even ten minutes. I turned it off, chalked up a couple of bucks wasted on pay-per-view, and settled for an old episode of "Three's Company" on Nick-at-Nite
🙄

Gotta go with you on Something About Mary. It had it's moments but it was nowhere near as hysterical as my friends made it out to be.

Mars Attacks! was a film I did not like, even though it was highly rated. Films like these always have their moments, but it just didn't cut it for me. Mind you, the all-star cast was a good selection, and I got to see Natalie Portman too. Heh, she didn't die in it!

Hey..I liked some of those...lol

The English Patient...omg, a new sleeping pill was born.

Chicago...

Good idea!

Pulp Fiction, and Speed!

Others: ET, Titanic, and Braveheart (Yes, I almost got into a brawl over this one🙄 ).

LOL, I'll second that one. And my better half will third and fourth it, too. Everyone kept telling me "well you're a guy, you just don't get it because it's a girl's movie." There's many films out there that are very well made that are "chick flicks." The English Patient was not one of them.

I'm about the only person that isn't impressed with Spielberg's library (except for Jaws, that is a notable exception). Two of my favorite directors are Bergman and Kubrick, and I was very disappointed at seeing the outcome of AI. That movie could've been amazing, had Kubrick finished it.

Also, I think the recent films by M. Night Shyamalan were fairly bland (i.e. Sixth Sense and Signs, and to a lesser extent Unbreakable), while I've been around those that thought it was the second coming of Christ on film.

I didn't like Titanic either. I don't like diCaprio and the story is very depressing. I also thought Minority Report was over-hyped and whilst Will Smith is cool in Bad Boys (or anything else) Martin Lawrence really grates.

Everybody I know loved "The English Patient." Some of my colleagues saw it three or four times. It won the Oscar for best picture.

I hated it. It was long, boring, stupid, and pointless.

When the Seinfeld episode came, where Elaine was the only one who hated it, and because of that she was dumped by her boyfriend, fired by her boss, and evicted by her landlord, I thought it was one of the best episodes ever. Way to go, Elaine. 😀

The Matrix. I liked it at first, but when EVERYONE I know/met talked about it as if it were REAL -- I completly lost interest in it.

Also, the anime movie Akira. Now I'll admit, this is an amazing movie that any anime fan should see at least once. However, for me, once was enough, and I'd never watch it again given the choice. I don't not like it, I just don't love it...or...really care about it at all.

Two that come to mind are 'There's Something About Mary' and 'Meet the Parents' In both of those movies, I found myself relating to Ben Stiller's character and as a result found both more depressing than funny.

speaking of grates...

How about Chris Tucker? That guy is terrible! How in the world did he ever get into show business? I bet his pooper hurts.

I fogot about The Matrix. It stunk. Minority Report stunk too.

The aforementioned "Gladiator" and "Titanic", also "American Beauty" and "The Truman Show"

Well...could name tons apon tons apon tons LOL. Heres how I look at it in a real simple way so this post dont become a 5 page list or more.If the movie got 4 stars by critics or is advertised as "a criticly acclaimed film" then, id say about 99.9 % chance it's shit and it sucks! When a film gets 1 star or 2 stars or is downed by critics, then it usualy (most of the time) ends up being a real great film! Has anyone noticed this through the years?
