MPEGs have audio, but no video...

All right, I know this technically doesn't have to do with the Forum, but I like it here and thought I'd start here for help. After recently installing Nero 7, I noticed that some of my older mpegs don't show any picture, only play sound. I tried installing some newer codecs, but no dice. I did notice that if I changed size, it would show a few seconds of picture, but reversed and upside down. Any suggestions? I'm running a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, 512 Mb PC3200 RAM, WinXP Pro, and ATI Radeon X800 Pro All-In-Wonder AGP card.

SmileyTkls, has the icons for the mpegs changed to a yellow icon? If they have its because the Nero media player became its default option.

Try highlighting the clip or clips you want to play, go to Tools in the top toolbar of the folder where the clips are located, click folder options and select file types. Find .mpeg and .mpg and highlight it. Click advanced. In the actions box the play in... will be highlighted, you can either edit the command to play in Media player or you can create a new command to get it to play in Windows Media Player.


If this doesn't work, you could convert it to .wmv with this free and wonderful converter Super encoder or go to the add new software windows explorer screen and click on Nero 7 and choose change and choose to uninstall the Nero media player.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, but the problem turned out to be an optional setting in the Catalyst Control Center that screwed up the video. All is well, and thanks to Rajee for his help. 😉
