MSN is NOT closing Adult Groups

Recently there has been a rumor circulating which claimed that MSN Groups would soon be closing down all of their adult and dating groups. We brought this to the attention of MSN Customer Care, and they advised us (January 17) that there are NO plans to close down any adult or dating groups except in the case of specific violations of the MSN Code of Conduct.

This hoax was apparently begun by a spammer who was trying to trick MSN Groups members into joining a rival service. Unfortunately, the rumor had spread quickly to other message boards, and many people were taken in by it.

Again, MSN is NOT closing down its adult and dating groups.

About a year ago, there was a similar rumor that Yahoo planned to yank down all of the "adult" Yahoo Groups as well as adult web sites hosted on GeoCities (owned by Yahoo) in an effort to be more "family friendly".

They did not yank down the adult Yahoo Groups, but refused to list them in their main directory.

This rumer was caused by Eroticity. They have drownded many of the groups to the point that people do not want to even go there. Plus their service is not the best. In one day alone, I received 35 emails from the Tickling In Detroit group that was from spams from this group. Thee ought to be something that we can do about this.

Although we make a great effort to keep our own message boards safe and spam-free, many group owners at Yahoo and MSN abandon or neglect their groups, allowing spammers and trouble-makers to overrun their boards, in some cases even posting attachments containing viruses.

We would encourage everyone to remain skeptical about any message posted by a spammer, whether it be about group closures, "free" photos, dating services, or similar material, and to use extreme caution in opening any executable file (ending in .exe, .bat, .vbs, or .com).

I know. I always get files from people I have never heard of, nor have I ever subscribed to their e-mail service, but they said I did.

Anyway, they always try to email me a screen-saver (.scr format) and Hotmail has a built-in virus scanner and each of those .scr came back saying it was infected with a "worm".
