MTV's "The State" Is Finally Here...

I've been waiting well over a decade for this, but MTV's The State has finally been released on DVD. They've actually had the DVD set ready to go for a good year now but due to a number of "legal issues" were not able to release it until now.

Basically back in the mid-90's, the golden age for MTV, they premiered their first sketch comedy series, "The State" which to this day is probably my all time favorite TV show EVAR. It ran for barely 2 years and was unceremoniously canceled due to lackluster reviews and the simple fact that they were ahead of their time. Had the show come out now instead of back then it would have been a hit. Any of you who were fans of the type of bizarre humor akin to "Kids in The Hall" or "The Upright Citizens Brigade" would love this show.

Since the original ensemble of 11 actors disbanded, they continued working in the entertainment industry but were never able to recapture the same type of humor they had as a group. Members of the crew went on to do such easily forgettable movies like "Hot Wet American Summer" and "Ten" and equally forgettable shows like "Viva Variety", "Stella" and more recently "Reno 911" (not a bad show really) and "Michael and Michael Have Issues". A few pop up randomly like Joe Lo Trulio in that beef jerky commercial where they try to give Bigfoot a ride in their car and mess with him, David Wain who supplies the voice of the Warden from "Superjail" or Michael Ian Black from just about every VH1 countdown special they've ever done.

At either rate I'm squeeing with happiness right now and already have it on..."CHICKEN SANDWICH CAAAAAAARL!!!!"
