Music sub forum!

Anyone else think we really need one of these? There's so many threads about music floating about on here, surly it would make sense? I know this has probably been brought up before aswel but if it has it's worth revisiting.

It's been suggested before. The forum admins decided at the time that there weren't enough music posts to warrant it's own subforum. And that was back when the TMF and General Discussion in particular were getting a lot more traffic than we see today. I can certainly understand their reluctance to further thin out the already scarcely populated Gendis.

But I personally like the idea, especially if it also included topics for musicians. Best guitars. Favorite recording software. That kind of thing.

The experiments with comics, books, photography, and other media sub forums has not been a smashing success.

I'm inclined to leave music within GenDis.

I must say in all the years I've been coming here though, it seems like no one cares about the joke sub forum and only a handful of the same people use the politics and religion forum. Maybe there would be a case for combining silly stuff and humour to free a space for the one true religion of music?

It's not about space. I have infinite space here to play with.

Jokes are different from silly stuff. The Silly stuff forum is mostly about thread chaining. In short silly little 'games' that let people spend some time and have some fun. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. It's a very interactive forum. Jokes is more about sharing something you found funny. The two are very different beasts and will combine poorly.

P&R was created specifically to REMOVE something from GenDis. The threads that leave in there are by default almost all combative and inflammatory. P&R was built to segregate the rest of the forum from the specific issues these threads can lead to.

Once upon a time, when GenDis was a much much busier forum, popping music out of it was an idea that I considered, but never got to. But with the lower volume of posts here now, making GenDis more of a tumbleweed zone doesn't strike me as a positive. So letting music hang out here is what I'm doing. Also more people will see your posts. Once you create a Ghetto for a topic, only people specifically looking for that topic go there. So you lose casual views which when it comes to music, is in my opinion one of the best things. "Hey look at this cool new song I found!" and people listen.

Yeah that's exactly where I'm coming from. Sports and radio are dead, politics and religion are far to heavy for most people to want to get involved in on a fetish website (although I totally get the need to separate that from gendis) and the silly stuff forum is full of 1000 page threads of people saying the same thing in a loop to boost they're post count.

But I do actually see what myriads is saying about threads attracting more attention if they are in gendis. I guess I'd still like to see it happen so that we could get some long running, in depth discussions going on. It's pretty clear that we're most of us music lovers but if we take ourselves off to a sub forum would gendis suffer? And if gendis becomes even more of a grave yard would it become harder for new members to get involved??

Saying all that maybe a music sub forum would actually encourage more people to get involved? I know I would have much earlier if there was!

I'm all confused now. Who'd be a mod?

Might not work anyway. Very rarely do I see two people disagree on something here as pointless as musical taste for instance without it becoming an argument over who sucks and why lol.

In respect to who would mod a new forum, whatever the new forum is, it's assigned to the mod that I feel is most 'correct' for it, who is currently active. Myself and Jeff are always added to most, as we act as spot mods to fill staffing gaps.
