I've lived in Baltimore since the start of 2007, but my social life and my sense of being at home are more centered in New York, where I lived for most of the two decades prior. I'm in both academia and the arts: I have a PhD, teach college, and am trying to launch a career as a publishing scholar as well as an educator; and I take part in the creative and performing arts. My artistic outlets are mostly in New York, but I'm exploring certain such communities in Baltimore. I figured out some time back that I'm not going to make a dime with my creativity, but the fun of being involved with artistic expression and hanging out with friends in connection with it is a huge part of my life. (I purposefully keep everything vague and generic here on the open board, but the people who correspond with me privately and meet me in person know the specifics of what I study and teach, and what specific kinds of artistic expression I engage in.)
In high school and college I was a bit of an outcast. It wasn't just the fact that I wasn't a jock: I've always had a struggle with social skills. They're a lot better now, and I think a lot of us who are works-in-progress make our most significant discoveries and breakthroughs when they reach their 40s, which is certainly the case with me. One thing I know for sure is, I'm not the sort who will marry, have kids, own a house, mow the lawn on Saturday mornings and look for antiques to decorate the house, etc. I'd be open to romance if I found the right woman, though I'm not sure she exists, but I'm definitely not into the social rituals of suburban family life and all that. It's more my style to have a messy apartment and rarely be there. My social life centers on meeting up with friends and spending evenings together, and while I rarely have a love life, I have many important and meaningful relationships in my life.
I'm a nudist. I take vacations at nudist resorts and naturist gatherings, and feel very comfortable hanging out with people unclad. There was a time when nudity had a big novelty to me; now, it's more a matter of community--when I arrive at the annual naturist gathering, I'm not thinking about the fact that I'm nude, but rather, I'm thinking about when Mike and Sarah will show up, and where's Brad, and hey, over there, is that you Charlie? It's about community.
Politically, I'm a liberal Democrat. I don't call Obama the Messiah, but I certainly call him the candidate I voted for who I'm happy won.
And I like to tickle. I'm a ler. I do let people tickle me, and in fact at a recent party I got a domme to give me a short tickling session. But I'm not all that ticklish, and when I get tickled it's more for the casual fun of it. In the more formal sense, I'm wired as a ler. I also get around to the spanking fetish community from time to time, and I've been saying right along that ticklephiles could get more play avenues for themselves by learning more about what the spankos do, which I know a little about with reference to both New York and the suburban Washington DC area.
Guess that's it for now. Peace and love, all.
