I seem to have a bizarre obsession with nail polish (maybe to the degree you could deem it a fetish! 😛 )

I was just wondering for the ladies, what are your favorite nail polish colors? Do your choices tend to reflect upon another aspect of your life, eg that being your favorite color per se? Do you usually match your fingers with your toes or choose different shades for each? I hope this comes out to be a fun thread! thanks! 😉

Hehe...

Nail polish is fun, and I have a bad habit of biting my fingernails, so when I wear nail polish it serves the useful purpose of discouraging me from doing this.

I tend towards blues and purples in nail polish. And sparkly stuff...I had this one nail polish that I loved, it was clear with a lot of silver glitter in it... if you applied 2 coats, your nails would sparkle like crazy. My favorites right now are a dark blue I have with little silver glitters in it, and a lavender shade with a gold tint under certain lights. I've worn black nail polish before when I felt goth 😉... I've seen some really pretty black polish with silver sparkles.

And it just so happens that my favorite colors are silver, purple, blue and black. I love color though, as an artist I must appreciate all the colors 🙂

very chic siamese dream, I admire your style 😉

does it taste bad or do you avoid chomping on your nails to prevent the polish from chipping?

actually, I love the smell of nail polish 😛 I view its scent as an aphrodisiac 😀

I'm on the other end of the spectrum from Siamese. When I wear polish (don't have much time for it anymore) I like neutral colors ranging from blush/beige to coral. These colors blend with whatever I'm wearing. I go for the neat and elegant look, and I like my fingers and toes to match.

You had to ask...

There's a system, as in all things glamour-related.

On the rare occasions I have my fingernails done, it's a French manicure. While I'm writing on the board, rooting through drawers and cabinets, grading papers, etc, manicures survive about 5 minutes on me.

The pedicure, which I do on myself once a week, is a totally different story. Mostly, the color depends on the season. In spring and summer, I do bright pinks and corals, with the occasional orange. If I know I'll be wearing a particular pair of shoes that week, I'll make sure the shoe and the polish don't clash.

For fall/winter, I'm a big fan of bronzes, burgundies and browns. However, for a formal occasion, nothing beats a rich, dark, shiny red.

Anything else that requires a long-winded response?

lol, that was as succinct as can be! thanks, this will be invaluable advice for me one day when I do my wife's nails... 😛 ladies and class, the perfect complement!

I know only the ladies were asked to comment, but I had a few of my own to add. First, I do love polish on a lady's nails, even if it's just a clear coat or French mani-/pedicure. The colors are certainly to be changed, and if they do match the season/attire, it is a great sign of a creative, and demonstrative personality. Secondly, being with a lady and having her let you apply it is also a wonderful experience. Even if it's not the greatest done, it's a shared moment that I know I love. Anyhow, as for the long-winded responses, please do!! I know I love to see how a woman thinks about things, esp. around this forum. 😀

sorry to disappoint you, but....

I don't do nail polish (or makeup either). I like to go natural. The last time I had my nails polished was last August for our wedding...and that was the first time in years (aside from the occassional coat of clear polish to strengthen the nails).

Ms.Ontheverge, I always wanted to know the answer to this question, it seems the most appropriate time to ask since you touched upon it in reading your post, why bother applying nail lacquer with color on your toes during the winter if you will not have them displayed in the public? 🙄

I think Angie Dickinson said it best when she quipped, "I dress for women. I undress for men."

Just because my feet won't be on public display doesn't mean some lucky devil won't get a peek...

I think lucky would be an understatment, Ms. Ontheverge😉

That's a very kind compliment. Thank you.

My remark was the effect of the cause from your previous statement, so in actuality, all the laud should be directed at you! 😉
