some bloody website has installed this toolbar on my system in Internet Explorer and I don't know how to make the fecker vanish. Can anyone help me?

Same thing happened to me once. Try left-clicking the item, then right-click it, then click "delete." This worked for me in IE 6.0.

Hope this helps.

Love,

thanks for your reply valerie! I did what you suggested, but unfortunately it only makes it hide, not delete from my system. I'm pretty sure it's a malicious buggar of a thing that is collecting my info and selling it to ad companies, my spam has tripled since it installed itself.

This is probably in your "add/remove programs", under your control panel. If your using win98,95,2000, or ME: Go to start, settings, and control panel. If your on XP just go to your start menu to access the control panel. The Icon your looking for will say "add or remove programs" or somthing similar. Once you open this up it will give you a list of programs installed, this is where you have to figure the name of the program that has installed your unwanted toolbar. I know "yahoo companion" does this if you forget to uncheck a certain box when signing up for a yahoo account. Hope this helps. If it doesn't work tell me what website did this or what the name of the program is. Sometimes you need to download a certain .exe to remove it.

Biggles...Have you been to Tom's site lately? Comet cursor comes up there. If you aren't really watching or don't act quickly enough, it will install itself. Though it does have some cute cursors, the toolbar and spyware are a pain. Even if you delete it, it will reestablish itself. Unfortunately, the only way to be rid of it is to wipe you system. If you can live with having to ignore the toolbar and have a good firewall, you can set it to not allow internet access to the program. I do that for most of my programs...pains or not...with Norton.

If you're afraid it might be spy-ware, check out the program Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. It scans your computer for spy-ware, and clears it out for you. You can also set up a backup in case one of the programs you use no longer works once the spy-ware is removed.

I check my system once a week. It also removes bad cookies from your system.

thanks guys, I haven't been running ad-aware as much as I probably should. Another person I spoke to said that the only way he could get rid of the toolbar is to reformat or reinstall IE.

Have you tried using the "View" tab? Inside there there's are a couple of places you might be able to disable that. Try Toolbars and Explorer bar and see if it's something you can easily disable.

Also, a good place to look for ad-ware is in your startup config, which you can access with Start>Run>msconfig. Click startup and you'll see a menu of all programs that start with your computer.

Thanks Jeff, I did the msconfig and got rid of a few programs that have been bugging me on startup. However, I tried the 'view', 'toolbars' thing, and this slippery fecker of a toolbar ain't gonna be gotten rid of that easily. I can make it hide, but I can't delete it. Ah well. Thanks for all the help guys!
