Need help with ms paint

Im trying to resize my own avatar for this site this time. But every picture i get off the internet and when i right click and click on save picture to save it to my hard drive. and When i go to crop the picture then resize it in ms paint the picture it real small. Is it becasue the pictures that i get off the internet are like 250x200 in size? or the pictures that i find online aren't big enough? or am i Doing something wrong to resize them?

:up_arrow: i tried both of thoses but they make whatever picture i try to resize real small

I admit I used PSP and my avatar is QUITE simple.


I've read the tutorial and it does NOT teach how to resize a pic. It tells how to crop a pic of roughly the desired size.

Keep in mind 64*64 pixels IS small. Especially if your base pic is quite large.

At any rate, the command you are looking for is "Enlarge/Skew" - not sure, got an italian version of Paint.

You can enter percentage of resize [50%, 25%, etc.] then resize the canvas as the tutorial says.

This kind of resize is quite rough, though. So, if you can get PSP trial or at least ACDSEE trial, you'd do yourself a world of good. 🙂

i just downloaded the free trial of Paint Shop Pro 8 from http://www.jasc.com/ and it didn't take that long to download(Thank God for highspeed internet😉) and i think the avatar that i Did turned out ok. Thanks kalamos for recommending that free program to me. I'll have to play about with more avatars now sometime

ps. Whats everybodys avatar set too on this website(as far as Size)? because my new avatar seems small and i set it as 64x64 just like this site allows for custom avatars

64x64 is the maximum, no bigger can you make it. It could be bigger, but with all the bandwidth that'd cost TT, I'm not surprised he doesn't raise it.

His IS 64x64. Yours is 42x48, so it still has some room to grow.

Besides, being so plain, I could afford full 64x64.
And you can do wonders with proper encoding and jpeg compression.

Take my pics: they are fairly large, 600*600 or something in that range. But they rarely weigh more than 100k.

It's a matter of right format. Save your avatar with progressive encoding and compression 5-15 and you'll have a 64x64 avatar at less than 2k.

Kalamos avatar IS 64x64 for sure, but is seems bigger yes, and it is a custom one of course.......or maybe it is in those already existing ?......artists avatars 🙂
