"Bernie, I don't like one thing. First you want five thousand down, and now are demanding the entire twenty five thousand up front. Your information might be helpful, and it might be nothing. How about we do this. A compromise. I give you twelve thousand five hundred immediately upon your giving me the information. I also include a check for the other twelve thousand five hundred postdated in thirty days from the day you give me the info. That would seem to be the best I can do. Will you agree to that compromise? If not, I really have to question whether I should deal with you at all" Ross said.
Bernie cackled. "Thats fine, and I will make it even more in your favor. Give me the first check when I give you the info, and have your attorney hold the second postdated check, and FedEx it to me on the day before the 30th day, does that sound fair?" Bernie said.
"More than fair. I will give it to a good friend of mine who is an attorney, and explain the agreement to him. If I know my friend, he will ask you to sign an informal paper agreeing to these terms that he will send to you. Please let's just both sign them, and then we can get this deal done, and it will be beneficial for both of us" Ross said.
"That's fine" Bernie said.
"I will get back to you within 24 hours. Let me just contact my friend, and get the two checks ready" Ross said.
Ross then called Alan Hell.
"Alan, its Ross. I need a huge favor . There is a guy who used to work in the same capacity I do who wants to give me what this guy said is valuable info on how I should deal with Charles Harton. He wants to charge me twenty five grand for what he says is valuable info. I'm going to give him twelve thosuand five within the next 24 hours, and then I will get a postdated check for the other half in 30 days after I see what his info is. Please just draft up a simple letter, send one copy to me, another to him, and you keep a copy after we sign it. " Ross said.
"Do you think the guy is legit?" Alan asked.
"Welll, if he's not, it will be twelve five down the tubes. If hes legit, then maybe his info can help me deal with a guy I want to keep in Harton, who has so far as you know been a major thorn in my side. " Ross said.
"Okay, you know that due to our involved business together, I'm technically not supposed to take you on as a client for a legal matter, but, since I dont want you to have to make this any more complex then it already is, and you want information that could finally help you deal with Harton since you do want to keep Harton, we will just keep this between us and the guy who has the info " Alan said.
"Thanks, my friend. I knew I could count on you" Ross said.
"Email me the guy with the information's contact info and I will have a letter drawn within 24 hours. You get the funds ready and send them to me. I will forward him the paper to sign, then send him the first check after the paper is drawn and he sends you the info, and then we will see about the second check" Alan said.
"Thanks, buddy, I owe you one" Ross said.
"Just keep sending me those huge checks on my investment in RFS Energy every month, and I will be fine" Alan said.
"As long as the wells keep pumping, Alan Hell will keep getting his checks" Ross said, as the men hung up.
Alan Hell drew up the agreement. Ross, Bernie, and Alan signed the agreement. Bernie sent Ross the info. Alan sent Bernie the first check, and held the second check
Within two days, Ross was hard at work studying the info on Harton. It seemed just as Bernie had told Ross., Harton was a "pisser" as Ross's father liked to say.
Ross kept studying, Harton kept demanding, and Ross tried to satisfy Harton's demands, while privately beginning to "Hate Harton's Guts"
As the weekend approached. Ross would need to go to OKC for three days
It had been almost three weeks since he had been down, and Fritz and Steve needed to see him about a big oil company Acquistion
Kayley understood when Ross showed her the papers, but Harton began to crow.
"Charles, you knew what you were getting yourself into when you got involved with me. In addition to RossShell, I help run a major energy company. My partners and I must have a very important meeting about a critical matter. I will not chaege that meeting for you. I will be gone two or three days, and when I get back, we can keep moving forward" Ross said firmly.
"Okay, I understand. Do what you have to. I will be here when you get back" Charles said.
"Seventy Two hours maximum, and I will be back in the office on the fourth day" Ross said.
Ross knew that it was crucial that he put Harton out of his mind, and focus on his meeting with Steve and Fritz about the details of this energy company acquistion deal, and about what they would say to the people they had to meet with.
Two nights before Ross left for OKC , Ross said.
"I have to go ,. Kale. If this works, we might be able to split this up with assets for OKC and Toronto. John will be involved for some meetings, and you know that he usually never is" Ross said.
"I'm not saying anything . You're keeping RossShell just stable, letting John work on Timothy except for special cases, and really not doing much except approving work except for this situation with Harton that you dont even know what will happen at the end of the day. Just go, try to do your deal. I will pray for you guys to push it through, and come home when you can" Kayley said.
Ross kissed Kayley long on the lips. "Thanks, teacher partner of 25 years, you are the best"
Ross and Kayley made love the night before Ross left for OKC. Ross knew that he had to clear his mind to handle this important possible acquistion, but he also could not get his mind off of Harton, until his partner shuffled him back to bed.
"You, into bed with me! You said you need to have your mind clear, so fine, have it clear. Try to forget about Harton for three days. Just focus on your energy company possible buy, and dont clutter your mind" Kayley said firmly.
Ross quietly followed Kayley back to bed.

From looking at it, back and forth, it looked like, looked like Ross could use at least some of Bernie's information.
What and how much information could Ross actually use, and how would it affect Bernie, how Ross dealt with Bernie, and what Bernie's reaction to how Ross went about things be?
