Hello everyone!
# tl;dr: registration will not be reopening broadly, we will be reaching out to the waitlist as cancellations happen.
So after finally getting a grasp on our headcount, hotel, and space limitations, we are not going to be broadly reopening registration. In addition to having every room in the hotel booked, we have over 200 registered attendees. While we could technically let people stay in nearby hotels or accommodations, the fact remains that we just can’t support any more in our public event spaces; we’re already having to get creative with the space we do have.
Not going to lie; we did not expect this explosion and speed of interest. Compared to last year–when registration went up in October and didn’t close until April–we didn’t think we’d hit an exponential growth; so fast that we couldn’t even properly report on it.
The plan moving forward is to utilize the waitlist ([email protected]) as cancellations come through; we will reach out to people in the order we’ve gotten them when they happen. If you’ve sent an email already, you’re on the list. We haven’t been replying just because we can’t, but know that every email gotten is on the list starting from when we first closed registration.
When we reach out, we will also ask about your lodging situation; if you already have a roommate lined up, are okay with staying at a nearby hotel, or are local. We don’t plan on biasing one way or the other, but just know that our room cancellations will be exceptionally rare, so if you get a waitlist ping and don’t have one of those three options, it is unlikely we’ll have an event-hotel room for you. Use that knowledge when we reach out to see if you would still like to register.
We will be doing this until April 25th; after which time we will no longer accept new registrants. Because of our unique situation this year, we won’t be doing ticket transfers like in years past; this cancel/waitlist method will be what we use instead.
It’s exciting that the event is hitting these huge strides but it comes with the cost of not having the hotel accommodations to meet that growth at this moment. We’ve learned a lot this year, and going forward, we are going to strive for a higher registration cap to accommodate more newbie and veteran attendees while continuing to explore options that include a hotel buyout. For anyone who has attended before, the fact that we have essentially 99.9% of the hotel is incredibly exciting and something that may be hard to not have in the future. Also going forward we will be opening registration and scholarships earlier to give people more time to prepare and plan. Thank you all again for your continued patience during this transition.
