Well, well, well.....

Another NEST has passed, #2 for me. And this years was even better in my eyes than last year. I have already started my plans for next year, I will be missing all of you until I get to see you next. Well, lets start the thoughts a rolling, and a pre-post reminder, I may not get everything in, or remember everyone...my apologies in advance...it was not that you did not make an impression on me...just a lot of memories to try and gather.

THURSDAY: THE ARRIVAL
After picking up VMan...I had decided in advance that I was going to save us some toll fare by going a different route to get us to Philly. BIG MISTAKE. Somehow we ended up in downtown Baltimore....the BAD part of downtown Baltimore..and when finally realizing we needed to make a u-turn to go the proper route...I turned down a side street....THE WRONG SIDE STREET and saw some not so friendly fellows that may have been engaging in some less than admirable activity. So as quick as I could I reversed back into the main flow of traffic and ripped ahead until I found a safer spot to turn around at. Which I finally did. Rest of the trip to Philly was stop and go on a highway but eventually made it to the hotel without any major issues.

Walking in the hotel....as usual the first person I saw was kered. Having lunch and flirting with the waitress in the hotel. AS USUAL. Talked for a bit, then went to have lunch ourselves at Ruby Tuesday's. Not to terrible, but got to hear Vman complain about to much damn spinach in the salad, but rave about the dressing and salmon. After finishing the meal we headed back to the hotel where others were now arriving. Lots of them. Many hugs, chats, reacquainting and epic bonding.

Then of course....Happy Hour #1!!! My first mention of course was "Why in the hell do they have to serve chips and salsa, this is like cereal to me." So instead I had way too many Jim Beam and Cokes from the lovely Donna..the great bartender that remembered me from last year..and she kept them coming my way ALL WEEKEND. Not to mention the great drink, a "Chunky Monkey" which was like Banana Schnapps and Baileys, and very tasty I might add. I also hand delivered (Being the Cabana Bob that I am) many drinks to LeeAllure and the ladies of my harem (Much love to my Harem :lovestory ) all weekend.

Rest of the night was filled with great memories, fun and snuggling and another return to the swimming pool and the awesome "Beach Ball" Don't let the ball hit the water game, and then some pool volleyball, which the team I played on LOST both times, but not due the lack of my effort:numberone:...and then bed somewhere after 3am.

FRIDAY: HOW DO WE GET BACK TO THE HOTEL! I NEED GAS!
After a pre 8am wake-up from kered, he knew I wanted some of that FREE breakfast...I got my omelet on and sat with a huge group already enjoying the morning smorgasbord and started to make plans for the day. After a workout and trip to the pool...upstairs for a shower and change where I met one of the MANY Navy veterans I would get the honor of speaking with all weekend. Some great folks in that group...a little inquisitive as well, but harmless.

Friday afternoon was spent on an easy drive to the Mutter Museum (great place by the way) but first a great sit down lunch with Falcon (thanks for picking up the tab bro), Snail Shell, Libertine and KittenToes. An awesome waitress...and the brick oven pizza was fantastic that Snail Shell and I split. Also I was introduced to some kind of soy beans that were in their pod covered in sea salt then you suck them in. I wish I could remember what it was called...but regardless it tasted better than I thought. The museum was great, even without a discount for a disabled vet like me...or the mentally disabled discount Libertine asked about. LOL. Some freaky ass stuff in there..but very, very cool.

Then for the bad part of the trip. It was suggested to me before we left that I should get some gas for the car, it was just starting to touch the E part of the gas gauge. But I saw it was only about 10 miles to the place and back, and figured I would gas up later. BIG MISTAKE. Trying to reverse the directions we came there by, found us in the midst of the most impassible roads, the most confusing road signs and a Canadian that wasn't the best navigator money (Loonies for that matter) could buy. Finally as we thought we found our way out...yet another loop around the damn street and finally it looked like we were on our way home. WRONG! WRONG! Now my gas gauge which had been jumping around was now blinking and saying the gas was gone! We had to pull off the next exit and PRAY there would be a gas station close...which brings me to a slight rant, if you do not wish to read it then skip the next paragraph:

Why in the hell did it seem everyplace north of DC has nothing right off the interstate you can see a sign, a billboard, SOMETHING! I mean, I can not drive on an interstate or major highway without seeing a tall sign with the price of gas, or an advertisement for one coming 1 to 3 miles away pretty much anywhere else. North of Washington DC...not a one! I mean what the hell is the deal with that crap. I mean, come on. SHOW ME SOMETHING! Give me a FREAKING CLUE on where I need to go or where the next gas station is. I mean COME ON. I hate the roads up there. REALLY REALLY BAD!!

Okay back to the post, we finally pulled off near the sports complexes figuring that near there would be a gas station, but no signs off the exit, no indications...and a gas tank light blinking like a freaking strobe light. I was panicking and not a happy camper and no idea how to find one. Falcon made a call to someone to see if they could find one somehow online or something when Libertine in a half-awakened state mentioned, just shout out to someone and ask, and behold some Flyer hockey fans were crossing, I asked them across the street and they told me, 2 blocks on the left. THANK GOD or what every deity just helped us out I exclaimed as we made the gas station before any pushing was required. Then we found our way back...NOT. Got off on the proper exit....and found ourselves back on 95, to which I finally followed the suggestion on KittenToes, stay on 95 until we say the exit for the Airport and the street of the hotel instead of following the directions backwards. And after a LONG trip back...we finally made it to the hotel. Everyone was in good spirits for such a blunder, except me. I was beyond frustrated and vowed never to drive into Philly again.

Friday night however helped me relax, again thanks to a generous happy hour and the arrival of more friends and of course registration which went 100% smoother than last year. Then our Friday night social. Timmy! (9's) and I played music while everyone else played games, ate and even several spontaneous tickle fights broke out all around us. By the time the social ended I went up to do the live radio show, and though it had less people in the room for the live show as I did last year (reminder to self, next time do it on the newbie party night) it was a great show with a lot of fun friends. After the show, a trip downstairs to relax with 100 or so great friends and lots of pwning going round and round. Then again, upstairs to the room about 3am for a little sleep..but this time with my weekend roommate Alchemy...which I barely saw all weekend but has my thanks and respect for a lifetime.

SATURDAY: Too much to do, 2 pool trips and a show.
Saturday was started with a late breakfast, well about an hour later than the previous couple of days...still as great as always, gotta love that free cooked to order breakfast. Sitting again among a great group of people to enjoy their company and a meal. Hard to have a "quick bite to eat" with so many wonderful people all around me. I think I table hopped at least twice. And upon settling in first with Kelby, Meg and several others (Kelby picking up Impailer's tray while Impailer was on the phone, and sitting in an area by himself and moving him to our table was classic.) we noticed the BANANA KING wearing the Banana shirt of all banana shirts, TickleChgo (Andy) himself...and found us commenting on his choice of outerwear. Which led to an great event inspired by Kelby and brought to life by yours truly (me if you don't understand it) later on. We all sat, had a great time..and then I joined several other tables before realizing I needed to get dressed a little nicer to go to the newbie orientation so I would not miss out on the fun.

Well after a sprucing up I headed on over and listened to Bella direct a great group of newbies and many vets waiting to see the inevitable...Amnesiac's interrupting appearance, with his "break in" roll. This year, he was an irate William Shatner, dressed as Kirk, demanding that Libertine (who he thought was Captain Picard) was not fit for the Enterprise. To which with all the grace and style I am used to, Libertine simply retorted that he was happy Amnesiac finally came to grips with his necrophilia (Amnesiac's outfit did certainly remind me of a flamboyant coroner) and the barbs were traded several times over, until a convincingly nervous personal assistant on a headset (played by Avenger..great job bro) came in to remind Mr. Shatner of his priceline commercial they had to get to.
The newbies did a great job reading rules and asking questions..including the always vocally popular Filthyweasel, which had them women giving a collective giggle and sigh and he started to read. After which all was done, people broke in all different directions, with me heading to get ready to teach my yoga class.

I was amazed at the amount of people to show up this year, and was very happy they were enthused and ready to do it. About 13-16 people joined me in a 40 minute session, and I really enjoyed having them all there and teaching what I could in such a short time.

After that, I grabbed a few munchies...stepped in on a few classes...a little play here and there....and then headed for the pool, one of my many trips on the first few days of NEST...but by now my eyes and the chlorine levels were just not getting along...and I enjoyed an early swim and soak session to myself..without another soul (or sole HA HA.) in the pool. Then as I got out to grab a smoke and then upstairs...down to the pool come Viper, Sapphire Rose, ASU and Mondy! To which I said...I was just in, let me go smoke and I shall return. To which I did. Then the funniest thing ever said to me from Mondy happened, to which I must give props to. Upon seeing me come back in and get at the edge of the pool....lovely Brighteyes...the darling Amanda/Mondy just so politely asked.."Should I get a door for you to float on Rob so you'll be more comfortable?" Just awesome. To which I got in and tried to make her sorry for her comment, but it was too funny and epic for me to even be worked up in fun way over it. Much fun was had, including a quick game of Mondy Keep Away with my beach ball that ASU rhinoed up to my room to get for us...and before that...a slightly gimpy HDS had joined us in the pool, ankle wrapped and taped and all. But DUDE, HDS.. get some thing to hold your glasses on your head so you stop losing them in the pool. Oh...did I also mention Dave (Baldadonis) and Sarah (saxarah) joined us in the pool...and thus began some epic chicken games between those 2 and Mondy/HDS. Great, great stuff. Mini Rant here: The chlorine in the pool after 3 straight days...starts messing with your eyes. Also perhaps I shouldn't open my eyes as often under the water...but yes, that pool had A LOT of freaking chlorine.

Well about then Mondy and I wanted to try the speed dating thing LeeAllure had set up...NOT FOR FIXING UP AND DATING PEOPLE...stop freaking out and just go next year. Just a way for people to have fun getting to know some new people. Sheesh. I enjoyed being able to talk to a few more people in depth I had not had a chance to before, even a great sit down with LeeAllure and learned a few things I didn't know and got her to stop talking "business" for a few minutes.

Well after that, a little more checking around..and then, yes another happy hour. But not like any other happy hour. Do you remember the Banana shirt I mentioned earlier that Andy (TickleChgo) was wearing. Well I had some bananas I brought with me and after seeing him that morning Kelby put a great idea into my head. I put a banana in my pocket (so yes many of you, I was not that happy it was INDEED a banana in my pocket) and waited until I was joined in line by TickleChgo, talked with him for a few and noticed a few other NESTer's in line near and all around at the lounge area..and when Max and MKeemer were close. They started to chat, I took this distraction as my chance took out the banana...dropped it at the feet beside TickleChgo,(which everyone watched me pick it up) picked it up and handed it to Andy saying "Here Andy, I think this just fell off of your shirt". The look of humor and horror set in to all around, to which all Andy could do was shake is head and mumble a "Thanks" with a few other choice words...and I had to admit that I was not the brains behind the operation..only the muscle. But it was a beautifully planned and operated plan. :typerhappy:

After a few more drinks, play sessions and conversations it was time to help TIMMY! set up for the Dinner/Talent Show. Big Dogg who was supposed to go decided to hang out with some fellow NESTers that were not going so he had a free ticket....and I was able to pry that from him and invite the lovely Lamashu to accompany me as my date for the evening. She happily accepted and thus it was an enjoyable time being able to sit and chat with her while I could throughout the dinner and my MCing duties for the following talent show, which I was still finalizing during dinner. The show went off without a hitch...except for the opening act of Fish singing Bon Jovi, the song cut off too soon (darn CD player) and the mic kept cutting in and out. But he did a great job! Really awesome job. Amnesiac performed some comedy next and got the crowd into a great mood..laughing throughout. Next was Tjack..you may not know him but he kind of looks like a hipper version of Carlton Banks from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. And that is what he did. Everyone ROARED with laughter as he did the dance to "That's not Unusual" and even sang a line or two. EPIC, beyond words. Next The Director did a bit that mixed Comedy and Horror. I was blown away as was everyone else. I am telling you, I wish everyone could have heard his routine. I can say that it takes a lot to impress me comedy wise, and he did. Then I broke into our half-way point by hosting a LIVE session of Match Game that I usually use on TMF Radio. Great answers from all my panelists and the contestants did a great job keeping up. Next, the cultural part of the evening as yet again Libertine and KittenToes regaled us with "SpankyBottom Shakespeare". Always a crowd favorite and amazing to watch. Perhaps next year a longer piece is in order! Then we ended the evening with music. Subtle Feather and Tklee88. Subtle played guitar and sang, while Katie sang. Granted she forgot some of the words to the second song (even though the googled the lyrics right before and wrote them down...LOL) but they sounded awesome together. Lastly BrightEyes and Tklee88 finished up singing some Taylor Swift...but Mondy was not finished as the song ended and she was taking her bows....she was swept up and away by a gang of kidnappers...not to be seen again for quite awhile.

Finally Saturday night wrapped up with 1/3 of the people out on the town coming back in, 1/3 of the people at the Dinner/Talent show meeting back up with those that did not go and 1/3 of the people still there hanging out or just getting back from their own dining experiences. Then the newbie party in my room which ended up more as a hang-out event watching a few great funny videos...then off to the Rev's party where much drink was to be had, and plenty of friends around...even if I embarrassed Impalier to the point he wanted to kill me where I stood by letting Libertine know that Impailer could do a damn fine impression, to which Libertine replied "It had better be good". Lots of play ensued all over...some light chasing and watching Meg (Irishgirl) fall out of a chair and clapping her hands from being tickled..clapping them so fast if there was a clapper installed for the lights in that room, yes it would have looked like a strobe light. Much more playing everywhere...I know I had a great time and it seemed everyone else was as well. Then again off to bed, about 3 am.

SUNDAY: NEST PARTY OF TWO?!?!? WTF?!?!
Okay...well Sunday AM went off without a hitch, a little rushed as I took too long getting a few things done in the morning (my neurological pain was starting to overpower me and I could not move nearly as fast or pain free as I needed too) a I began to set up my stuff for the play party. Got it all ready and then......
The hotel NIMROD that schedules events in the ballrooms, DOUBLE-BOOKED! I think several of us should have "Double Booked that moron in the ass with our boots". Us being there with a Navy reunion and them needing space for risers and a dance floor unfortunately led to the only fix that Lee could handle and agree to. We moved into 2 smaller rooms, apart from each other and one of those the AC barely worked, to which I demanded maintenance do something and found every single one I could, and had one bring in a ladder to check and make sure it was the best it could do. But LeeAllure as always handled the situation with more class and grace than anyone I have ever met. She gave us all heart felt apologies which I assure you were not needed coming from her, it should have been the staff of the hotel giving us those. We all took it in stride and did all we could to make the most of the situation...in which we certainly did. People being tied all over to all kinds of equipment, all the buzzing from many implements and the laughter echoing throughout the rooms.

As I traveled between all the rooms handing all the ladies their "Thank You for being a Lady of our community gifts" I give every event...I was slightly surprised at the common theme "Oh Rob thanks for the flower.(Said in a normal tone accompanied with a hug) and then OOOOO! Awesome! A Blow Pop too! (Said very excitedly and with some kind of hopping or bouncing)
Then finally I was able to break out my Sonic Scrubber for a bit of fun here and there (which most people could hear that thing from across the room when I turned it on) and scared quite a few it...and had fun introducing it to many. Let me also not to forget the spread...lots of great food...and CHOCO CAKE!! And a special quick shout out to Tkl-Duo Ann for my favorite cookies!

WE also had the raffle, amusing to see CapnKitty (CapnMad) win so much Hello Kitty gear I thought he was going to start Kindergarten the next day. It seemed to be a 4 way race for swag this year between Blood, GirlWhoLikes2Laugh, Avenger and Viper. But I can say this....Mark should now smell real purtty like and its about time! More fun and one-liners than I can remember were scattered about the raffle and certainly many of them were of the "you had top be here to understand the context" type. Hopefully many of you will next year. Also before the raffle I was able to see the fruition of a years work, with myself handing Max Speer the 1st EVER NEST Commemorative Plate, with artwork by Snail Shell and accompanying Poem written by BrightEyes. Wonderful, Wonderful memories.

Then more play, lots of people coming to and fro, and one good thing about the party being moved into one of the rooms it was...it was right next to the bar for our free-drinks happy hour (actually 2 hours) so it healed the sting just a little bit. Then Max Speer sat at the piano and played us many songs while I sang horribly along...but the rest sang wonderfully. Songs like "Build me up Buttercup", "Daydream Believer", "Come Sail Away" and "Don't Stop Believing." and Natural Tickler helped out with a great sing-a-long with "My Girl" which many people turned into "Max Spear, talking about Max Spear". Those little moments are what make these events so great for me.

The large party finished up, HDS and CrystalLight had to leave so I was able to see them before they went, and most people were winding down and planning our late dinners. I went out with Kwildoctor, Lite, TKL-Duo Ann and Drew, Spotman and SpotLady, Impailer, Max Speer, MKemmer, Big John, TkleChgo and I think someone else who I am kicking myself right now for forgetting....we all went to the Philly Diner...great food there. And I also learned was Scapple is, and made a terrible/funny to me and some joke by asking the waitress when I ordered..."If I order the scrapple can I get it without Q's and I's?" To which she didn't understand at first, but when she asked me to repeat it and I did....she got the joke. Though the groans at the tables were many...I enjoyed it. And in another enjoyable moment from that dinner (along with Impailer/Tkl-Duo Drew reading the menus as Libertine) as we were leaving and standing outside for about 5 minutes the waitress rushed out and asked if we were ready to leave and ready to pay the bill...which was odd because she handed back the credit card that was being used to pay for it with the receipt and we all thought she was done with us. Many jokes were made about the thoughts of an unplanned dine-and-dash, especially since we thought the bill was paid. LAST RANT HERE: When I order a Sweet Tea ANYWHERE ELSE I get tea with sugar, in the North...I got some raspberry tasting crap that looked like tea. GIVE ME WHAT I ASK FOR!! And please, somehow someone LEARN to make sweet tea.

Returning to the hotel found all kinds of people milling about, some also getting back from their own dining groups out and about. I had thought about a return trip to the pool, but my eyes were finally feeling fine and I knew I had a long drive the next day. So I spent the rest of the evening relaxing with friends, some fun tickling and play and a lot of last night talks and cuddles with everyone I could. I really wanted to stay later, but due to a peripheral attack from my nerves (Big thanks to TexasTickler and Darkhand for sticking with me and making sure I was okay and keeping an eye on me and not making me feel broken) and the entire weekend I was worn out and it was an early 1am bedtime for me.

MONDAY: Take the long way home
I got up about 9, just so I could have a light breakfast before they stopped and noticed several people I wanted to say goodbye to had already left. So while I missed those chances there were plenty of others I had to say good bye too. Lots of hugs, words, number exchanges and even a big hug to my favorite Bartender/Hotel Staff Donna! Even though there was a lot of sadness in the air, all of us knew it was time to go and return to our places and start another year of waiting, planning and hoping. I did my best but I burst out in tear saying goodbye to LeeAllure...the most wonderful woman I know...and Skippy...my precious, precious Skippy whom I adore. It was sad leaving everyone but I got a lot of pictures and a lot of memories to carry me through until next year. I only hope it is 10% as good as it was this year.

Finally on my drive home, after I dropped off V-Man...after back tracking twice...LOL, I took a different road home..having vowed up there not to drive back through DC. I noticed the mountains and made a quick stop at this beautiful overpass with walking path over the Potomac River right by West Virginia.
I sat there for a minute, looking at that beauty...that splendor. The pure scenery of that place. The serenity. And in my mind I equaled that moment to Friday Night, as everyone was was there and I stared over the crowd of us from the 4th floor balcony.

In my life I have seen 4 truly blessed things. The birth of both of my children. That sunset on the Potomac River....and the overlook of a 4th floor balcony, seeing my friends....happy. Truly, happy. I love and miss you all.

OKAY SHOUT OUT TIME!! Now understand this is in no particular order and if I forgot REMIND ME!! I am not ashamed to admit some may forget me for some reason and I may you...just A LOT OF FREAKING PEOPLE! You all meant so much to me, and I thank you all for being there.

I really hope I can see you sooner, but if not...SKYPE TIME!! You are a wonderful person, a caring soul and the first person to make me say uncle and quit a tickle fight. Most of all thank you for all your years of friendship and the many more to come. I appreciate truly what you have done and my life is better, my world is better...OUR WORLD is better. Thank You.

and you sir DEFINE class. It was such a pleasure, nay honour, to meet the voice behind one of the few remaining TMF Radio hosts. I can't wait to talk to you more at my next gathering, whatever it ends up being! 😀

ILY you too my little mexican taco! you are the sweetest to me and I appreciate your friendship

I miss you Robby Bobby. 🙁 You are like...the sweetest man in the entire WORLD.

It's always a pleasure my brother. It was good to be able to sit down and yap together this year.

Thanks all...sorry it was SOOOO long, but I had to do it.

Rob

Thanks for the kind words, sir.

Given that the two of us make a whole Mexican, we should definitely team up on people more.

It was great to see you again, my friend. You were the very first person I saw at NEST 🙂

It was nice meeting a fellow USAF Veteran, and you stand out in the crowd with your sombrero.

it was awesome spending the weekend with you, bro! take care!!

Thank you Rob for taking the time to tell everyone about the wonderful weekend we all had. I'm not very good at this and always want to write about all that happened at N.E.S.T. but never do. You did it very very well my friend. Thank you again for taking the time. I think it's threads like this that help the newbies get by that "First time" fear and come to these events. It was fun sharing the Piano and Max's talents with you, and singing all those great songs. Those are the times at N.E.S.T. that just CAN NOT be discribed in these threads. Take care bro, see you next time.

For the record:

The waitress flirted with me first. I had to defend myself.

With anyone else, I'd say this was bunk, but I can believe it coming from kered. The ladies just can't get enough of him.

I was thrilled to see you more relaxed and less frantic this NEST, my Mexican hermano. I'll take your advice on vaulting obstacles to heart, yes indeed. Great to have seen you. 🙂

Awww thank you Rob! I am soooo glad I came and was able to meet you! Thanks for being so kind!

Dude! It was great rocking the decks with you. Next year I'll bring some music that isn't 150 bpm  You're always one of the highlights for me, and I can't wait for next time!

PS - I want the pic of you sneaking across the border during the Team Canada pic at the end

I enjoyed the "Scrapple" joke, Rob. As did everyone else at the table. And the sing-a-long with Max at the piano was awesome!(as was your "Cartman" during "Come Sail Away")

So someone told me the next day you're a fan of the band Spirit? We must talk.

Drew

Rob, you are my rock and easily one of my favorite people ever. I fucking love and adore you more than you know. Always. xoxoxo

Rob you're awesome. Glad to be a part of your Friday show, just sorry that I was tired as shit for some reason, my brain just went dead when you handed me the phone. I'll see you at another gathering soon I'm sure mate.
