So I was browsing AskaNinja.com when I stumbled across this subject of Network neutrality. I was reading on this website which I'll post in a bit what the issue was about. It explained that big ISPs were slowing or blocking their customers from certain sites that didn't pay them in favor for those that did or their own sites. I didn't think much about it but then I began to think. Long before my internet could open sites in a flash and watching flash movies was a piece of cake. But then all of the sudden it seemed like things were slowing down, like a old wheel without fresh grease. Some days it would stop all together taking hours before it worked again. Even loggin on here takes a few seconds longer than I remember. Could it be my ISP is doing this on purpose? Could your ISP be doing the same? Before you anwser take a look at this.

Could be true, but it sounds like another conspiracy theory to me, like antivirus programs releasing their products with viruses attatched.

Well i know companies like Verizon dsl service operate something like this: the farther you are from the main office, the worse your internet connection may be. Also, verizon for whatever reason may not be able to offer some customers a full 2mb download, sometimes giving their customers something above dial up but just not as good as broadband.

Sometimes even high speed cable modems companies may not be able to offer full uploads or downloads basically because the cables in your neighborhood need to be upgraded.

It may be easier to follow once the United States has one official Isp and high way robbing companies lke Aol burn in h***.

Well DSL services do get marginally slower, the further you are away from the ISP; which is why its always best to find an ISP that is closer to you in proximity.

Also you have to keep in mind that other factors come into play; your distance from the server you are tryin to download from, whether that server has heavy traffic or not, peak hours etc... it's not easy to determine why a connection might suddenly slow down.

Yeah, the distance to the server, and the number of different devices it has to pass through slow down the signal. This is called Latency 🙂 .

Yup, that the term... "latency"; the amount of time (or delay in time) it takes for a packet of data to travel from one point to another.

Somebody's played Counter-Strike!

(hopefully)

hahaha, actually I'm just ur average computer nerd.

When it comes to shooters tho I'm more of a UT2k4 kinda guy; I'm not really into "realism" shooters. With the right bunch of people, I do enjoy Call of Duty: United Offensive tho 🙂

"BOOM! headshot!" 😛

Hehe, yes I have. But I know latency from doing Data communcations at University 🙂 .

Yuppers. But seriously, after reading things that lend credit to this, I'm a bit more believeing now. I think that if it becomes a major enough problem it will be put into law, or at least I would hope so anyway.
