The call, was from a man who wanted to meet with Ross.
The man was Charles Harton. He ran a non profit organization for people with disabilities.
Charles claimed that he had "backers" with money, who would pay any high fee Ross wanted.
Yet, there was one catch. Charles knew that Ross had a huge staff, and about Ross's other business. Charles met with Ross for drinks before Ross went home that night. Charles said that Charles was prepared to give Ross a one million dollar retainer for any business which Charles gave to Ross, but that Charles wanted Ross himself to prepare all work, and that Charles had veto power over any work which Charles did not like.
After Ross's meeting with Charles, Ross brought home the paperwork, and gave it to Kayley.
"Kale, look at this. This guy Charles Harton has backers with incredible amounts of money. This might be one of RossShell's biggest accounts ever, but, Charles Harton insists that I do all the work myself, which means that if I accept the account, my time to go play in OKC with my friends will be very limited. " Ross said truthfully.
"Are you going to accept the account?" Kayley asked.
Ross sighed. "I told you, I'm bored, Kale. You know how much I love the oil and gas, but part of me misses the old days when I went into the office, and did all the big accounts myself. You and I both know that the last several years since I met Fritz and Steve, and since we started RFS Energy, my whole life has changed. I fought so hard to get RossShell and the name back from Tazzio, and look at how I've been since. We have an agreement that I will live up to that you will come to me, and tell me when you want to retire. Well, I know that will not be for another ten years. So, the question for me is, except for my spending the next ten years and the rest of my life loving you, how do I spend the ten years.?, I'm torn. Part of me wants to accept Charles Harton's account. I've also heard stories that he is, to use my father's and my favorite saying. "A Miserable Human Being" I want to read this over carefully, and think about whether to accept it. I've never had a non profit as a client before, so it might be a nice change, but, with as important as Alan Hell and Tim are to me, is this a wise move? I just dont know" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "Its your choice,. I promise I will not meddle in your business. The only business I want to meddle in , is your heart, soul and body"
Ross held Kayley close. "You're alright , teacher"
Ross and Kayley made love that night.
After that Ross, always a terrible sleeper, went into the den, and looked over Charles Harton's proposals and possible work very, very carefully.
Ross was approached by a shadow, his partner for life.
"Please come back to bed, you. You are not well, and you need sleep" Kayley said.
"I'm not tired. I satisfied you. You go back to sleep if you are tired" Ross said.
Kayley sat on Ross's lap. "I'm not tired. I dont want this to consume you 24-7. Just think about it, make a decision, and do it" Kayley said.
"I feel like it is years ago. I'm ready to dive head first into the unknown with a client who may be difficult, and I dont know how it would work out. I mean, I know that I can always accept Harton's account, and if it becomes too difficult, I can part ways from or resign from his account if need be. Maybe this is for myself, Kale. The Alan Hell situation which got all out of hand with Tom was one situation. Alan is still my client at RossShell On Demand, and the situation with the plan to reorganize Alan's approach to his firm where Tom was driving us all crazy was one situation. Now, Tom is fired, Alan is still my client, and Alan is still a major investor in the oil and gas. This is the unknown, and I'm .. uncomfortable, very uncomfortable. This shows that I'm not comfortable pitching a big game for RossShell. That is very troublesome to me. I fought to hard to get this company back that I wanted, and have built it larger than ever, and now its almost like, someone gives me a huge opportunity, and I'm scsred to pull the trigger on it" Ross said.
"Ross, have you ever decided what you are going to do with your time if Fritz and Steve come to you and tell you they want to sell RFS Energy for good? You will always be friends with them,. but your life would and will be very , very different" Kayley said.
"That subject has really never come up. We always reject offers for people who want to buy RFS Energy. Fritz, Steve, and I do not want to sell. For the foreseeable future, there will be an RFS Enetgy owned by the three of us, and run by the three of us. I never consume myself too much about the future, because for me, especially with RossShell, and with RFS with the running of the company, and the shows, the present is always so unpredictable" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "Come back to bed. You are not going to solve the problem with either Charles Harton, or RFS Energy tonight. Just try to sleep" Kayley said.
Ross followed Kayley back to bed, and she half wrapped herself around him, even though Kayley knew Ross needed some room in case he had to use the bathroom.
Ross was really turn. He wanted the old life back with the shows. Ross thought that he would be okay selling off RossShell if he could do constant shows with Fritz and Steve for the rest of his life. Yet, he knew he could not do that, due to Kayley's job, and that he needed to be home to be a present husband to her.
The days went by. Ross studied Charles Harton's proposal very, very carefully. Harton had given Ross a thirty day deadline as to whether to accept or reject the account, and the days toward that deadline were ticking off the calendar quickly.
Finally, Ross and Harton agreed that Ross would "accept the account on contingency. Harton gave Ross a one hundred thousand dollar fee in return for Ross preparing a first proposal. Ross spent one solid week, himself, focused on only Harton's wishes and orders about what Harton wanted Ross to do.
Finally, Ross gave the work to Harton. Harton said that he would get back to Ross within 72 hours. This was on a Friday.
The weekend went by. Ross tried to relax, and wanted to take a two day OKC trip to just meet up with Fritz and Steve., Kayley was okay with the idea because Ross had been staying put for so long, spending time with her, and just focused on regular work.
On Monday morning, Ross went to office, and found an almost "Berating E-mail" from Harton
"This is very disappointing, and not what I wanted or expected at all. Yet, since this is only a first proposal, I want to try to work this out. Let me change a few things, and I will get back to you by the end of the week with another proposal" Charles said.
"Charles, I really have to take a two day trip for business for my other company before you give me anything. I have stayed put for a long time to focus on your business and our meetings" Ross said.
"Fine. Do whatever you have to. We will talk further" Harton said.
Ross hung up with Harton, sat back in his chair, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
Did Ross make a major mistake by accepting the offer to do work for Harton and Harton's non profit?
Ross was in a bit of a bind due to his agreement with Kayley that he would scale back his OKC trips for the good of his health. Thus he would be in the office more, and needed to occupy his time while in the office.
Could Ross find a way to please Charles Harton, and, even if Harton accepted the first work from Ross, what kind of a client work wise and personality wise would Harton be for Ross and RossShell?
A new unknown was unfolding, and it would be seen how it all would work out
