New Law in UK

I wonder how the new law in the UK on pornography will affect viewing materials produced by producers such as Kink.com

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/berkshire/7389476.stm

My guess is that law will be one of those laws which will be on the books but rarely enforced. I being an American am no expert in British law by any extent but what I read from the article is that the standard was already in place. You could not do X. The criminality now includes possessors and not only producers. This just seems to be one of those 'piling on' measures that authorities can use to pad their cases against suspects. I would suspect that anyone who is already a suspect probably has a history with a decent case already built.

Heavy drugs are illegal people still do it. Murder, rape, grand larceny all are still illegal and people still do it. I don't see the law changing anything significant. Of course you guys over in Europe are all in a tangle anyways with the EU so perhaps this precedent can expand to Europe and become law their as well. I don't know.

I don't see any such law expending to the U.S. and have any significant enforceability behind it. This would run smack into the First Amendment that is provided we still have a Constitution. Washington has been turning that into Swiss cheese as of late.

No this sounds like what we here in the North Eastern U.S lovingly call a Blue Law. It just sits on the books with little enforcement and is only trotted out when its convenient.

*sigh*
Repress the minority even more, why don't they. That'll help build people's self confidence. >_<

Well, why not ban cars and alcohol because of the innocent people killed by drunk drivers!

Ridiculous bullshit; and it will not stop the people who are really into this.

But I suppose it applies mostly to imagery involving women's breasts being nailed to boards and such, the hardcore BDSM producers do not seriously injure women from what I've seen thusfar.

The problem with this is the interpretation, somebody could have a rash or rope burn from being bound and tickled, at one end of the spectrum, and at the other end they could hang from chains with the arm coming off, i think its this end of the thing that applies. but like Feather Daemon says will it be enforced, one of the soft porn sites, had a blog and gathered sigs a few years back, i didn't know it had got this far, nothing much in the press of late.just how free is the uk.

I hope the mother feels proud of herself when violent acts like that increase because the people that enjoy it have nowhere to watch it.

I don't see how this is any different from banning films because they have violence in them. By their reasoning it causes people to go out and be violent.

The evil son of a bitch who murdered this woman's daughter had problems far beyond being addicted to certain kinds of pornography. Even if there were no such pornography, a violent man like Mr. Coutts might have been set off by other things like, say, TV programs. Or advertisements. (The murder method was straight out of the classic Alfred Hitchcock horror/suspense film, Frenzy.)

It would take a lot more time and effort for the state to treat a man who might otherwise do violent harm than it does to wage a cynical moral crusade. Scapegoating porn also is a tried-and-true vote-getter.
