When Ross awakened the next day, his symptoms had turned into a persistent cough, although with no "flem" coming out of him, and his voice was hoarse.
Kayley donned a mask to see him.
"If I don't have the mask on, I'm going to get sick. You can take off anytime you want, I cant. If you go in today, I will be leaving for parts unknown" Kayley said.
Ross was annoyed, but could not yell. "Gee, thanks so much, teacher. I fall one day, and now probably have a cold, and you're threatening to leave? Did you not stand there and hear the Rabbi when he said the words. "For better or worse" ? I did not make a crazy business deal, educator. I came home as soon as I fell in the office, and got sick, and now I have a cold. Excussseee Moi. As the late and excellent John Ritter as Jack Tripper used to say in the show Three's Company" Ross fired back, quietly but pointedly.
Rpberta the nurse entered the room. "Good Morning. My shift is over. I called someone to relieve me, as I knew you were probably not able to go into work, and you. will probably not want to be here alone" Roberta said.
"Thank You, Roberta. This man will be staying home today" Kayley said.
Another nurse, Donna, came in to relieve Roberta, and Roberta said goodbye.
"Kayley, I will call you if anything serious happens. Ross, would you like me to call the Doctor, and take you over there, or ask for a house call?" Donna asked.
"I dont think I need it yet. Let;s wait one more day. If I feel worse later, maybe we will, but for now, I just want to rest" Ross said.
"Okay. Donna , have a good day. Ross, I know that you won't stay off the phone completely, but please stay in bed, and as I always say, be mindful" Kayley said.
"I will be making exactly two or three phone calls. One to the office to tell them I wont be in, one to Steve, and if need be, to Timothy. I really want to try to fight this off" Ross said.
"Good Idea. Take care" Kayley said.
Ross's first call was to the office. "Vic, I'm not coming in today. Whatever happened at the office yesterday has turned into a dry coughing fit, and sneezing. If anything really important happens, text me, but besides that just hold everything. I'm going to call Tim and Steve, and other than that, anyone else can wait" Ross said.
"Okay, Ross. Feel better" Vic said.
"Thank You, Vic. I hope I do soon" Ross said.
Ross called Steve, Ross's voice going.
"Ross? How are you, my friend?" Steve said.
"Home sick with a cold and laryngitis. I really have to stay off the phone and conserve my voice. Anything important just email or text. Hopefully I will be better ASAP" Ross said.
"I hope you will. Take care, buddy" Steve said.
"Thanks, Steve" Ross said.
Ross dialed Tim's number.
"Good Morning , Mister Ross! How are you today?" Tim said, in a friendly tone.
"Home sick, unfortunately. I fell in the office yesterday, and got sick to my stomach. Now I'm home with a coughing and sneezing fit. I have a nurse here with me to watch me, but I'm going to wait a day or two before I go to any Doctors. If they put me on any antibiotics, that will screw my stomach up. So far, my stomach seems okay, and it is just the coughing and sneezing, but I dont want that to change" Ross said.
"Okay, well I will leave you alone, and let you rest. " Tim said.
"Thanks., If you want to email or text about something not complicated, I can do that, but nothing that requires a lot of thinking. Right now the only thinking I'm doing is how to get rid of this and resting in bed" Ross said.
"Understood" Tim said, as the men hung up,.
Donna sat, watching over Ross, and periodically bringing him hot tea and over the counter cold meds.
Ross was awake a lot, but he was also very tired, and periodically drifted off to take a nap.
Then, about the last thing Ross needed, an important message in business, popped up on Ross;s cell phone. Not what Ross needed when he was sick and trying to rest.
Who and where was the important message from, and what was it about?
That would be seen.
