Hello everyone! I have decided to stop using my lurker account and be apart of this wonderful forum!

Now something you should know, I'm not the best artist, nor do I have the tools to be a half way decent artist. BUT!!! There is One thing that I love doing...

Coloring...

I even have a deal with my friend Ribbotang along with a few others that I might contribute by coloring their work!

Now, I know that That being this is my first post and all, I have to show A little something of mine to keep people interested. So I've attached my 2 latest works for Ribbotang.

Flannery Tickled by and ekans
Ribbotang's OC Christie tickled by a "Ribbotang"

I'm eager to hear you guys got to say, So let me know!

Not a bad colour-job... but what I am wondering, WHAT tool are you using for colouring?

You say that you don't have good tools, but I'm thinking you probably have paintshop or photoshop? - Are you using the magic wand to select areas and then flood-filling, or what are you doing exactly?

I noticed the pictures are not entirely filled exactly 'onto the lines', and if you have any of the above mentioned graphic programs, then I have a great tip for you to do colouring even better. ^^ So say if that is the case and I'll be glad to explain in further detail.

1. I use linux paint, which in comparison to say paintshop, is steaming pile of $&!%.

2. I use the paint bucket for the general areas, and I use the paint brush to get in the small spots. :/

Hm, I'm not familiar with Linux (nor Linux paint) but it sounds like it probably has about the functionality of Windows Paint (which is not that much at all). I guess it doesn't support layers then. I don't know if there are any good free/cheap shareware programs which you can get that have transparent layers, because that makes life of the colourist 200% easier and their works look 500% better.

A quick google turned up with a program called 'GIMP' but I didn't spend that much time to find out what you'll get with it and if it's a good alternative (or affordable). But if you're serious and want to make nice colour work instead of 'rough-around-the-edges-stuff' you may want to consider it.

If you're on Linux, then GIMP is the way to go (alternatively you could try Krita, though that one doesn't seems to be as actively developed). I used Gimp for a few of my own art pieces, and it's a very capable program. Sure it's got a learning curve, but so has Photoshop on Windows or Mac. And GIMP is free, can't argue with that. 🙂

Oh, and welcome to the forum! ( the non-lurking side of it that is 😉 )

*nod* Probably can't go wrong with that. It may be complicated at first (as Scavenger mentioned a bit of a learning curve) but if with a bit of playing around (and trying to find out how/where from to use the layers - if they are called that in GIMP), I'm sure you can ask for a little guidance here. I can't help you further unfortunately since I don't have a linux system and no GIMP.

But I think you'll find it may be well worth the time to try this.

Good luck!

Gimp = Good.

It's FREE, and it does more than what freeware SHOULD do!!!!
