OBIT: Ray Bradbury

Science fiction author extraordinaire Ray Bradbury died at age 91 today. There is simply no overstating his poetic talent, vision and impact on the genre. I first read The Martian Chronicles when I was ten years old,... along with a volume of Ray's short stories,.... and I was sold for life. I'm sure he no doubt influenced every other significant sci-fi writer who has come along since the 50's. We are fortunate for all that he created,... for his simple and gracious manner,.... and that he was with us for so long. Thank you Mr. Bradbury.

That is indeed a shame...and, for me, a little spooky. I read one his stories just this morning; "And So Died Riabouchinska", from The Machineries of Joy collection.

He wrote some great stories and novels. As a kid, he was my second favorite author (behind Asimov).
Rest In Peace, Mr. Bradbury.

I read all his stuff like twice. The Martian Chronicles was a classic. R Is For Rocket. Something Wicked This Way Comes. All great stuff. He will truly be missed. RIP Mr Bradbury.

Since I read it just this morning, "And So Died Riabouchinska" is fresh in my mind. It was an especially interesting Radbury story, because there were no science fiction or fantasy elements in it. It was creepy, and moody, and several other things ending in Y; but it could have really happened.

Another story in the collection, "A Miracle of Rare Device", is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read.
