They might have been popular at the time but are largely forgotten now. From any era. This series just
killed me.

I loved the show Soap. Brings back a lot of memories actually. I was quite young at the time this series debuted. My Mom was a big fan of the show as well and she let me watch it with her but was very reluctant to do so at the time. I guess you could say Soap was a rather "edgy" sit-com and was definitely way ahead of its time. Billy Crystal was one of the stars of the show and he played an openly gay character which at that time period was pretty much unheard of for a gay character to be portrayed on television. My favorite though was Chuck and Bob. Chuck was a ventriloquist and Bob was his dummy. They cracked me up every time. So many great characters though on that show.
I don't know if any of these sit-coms would be considered "obscure" but they may be obscure to some...
-Silver Spoons (featured Ricky Schroeder, the lovely Erin Gray and a very young Jason Bateman who played a smart-ass kid named Derek)
-Welcome Back, Kotter (John Travolta's break-through role as Vinnie Barbarino)
-What's Happening!! ("Hey,
Hey, Hey!")
-Too Close For Comfort (featuring Ted Knight and one of the hottest women on the planet at the time...Lydia Cornell. Google her if you don't believe me.)
-Charles in Charge (featuring a post-Happy Days Scott Baio and the soon-to-be Baywatch BABE Nicole Eggert)
-Jesse (starring Christina Applegate. Nuff said.)
-Duet (late 80's sit-com on FOX starring Matthew Laurance and Mary Page Keller)
I've always been a huge sit-com fan from a very early age. I guess I was just a fan of laughter in general from a very early age.
