I can't believe I forgot about this. While in Missouri attending the funeral of a family member, I found a wooden gravestone and the writing on it was still in good condition. I don't remember the woman's name but apparently she was buried in that grave and that tomb stone was made in the year 1869 and get this, she was an "actress". I'm guessing she was a stage performer. Still, it's not every day you come across a tomb stone that is over 140 years old ya know?

Wow,that is really cool. You should have taken a photo of that.I wonder what actress she was..I'm surprised it is still in such good condition,

actually yes i do...in the family cemetery located in Philippi, WV..called Mont Olive Cemetery..i have several ancestors buried from the late seventeen hundreds on...i love old cemeteries..my parents and baby are buried there..it makes it more special..

yes it is...it's more than a tombstone..it's a monument..they must have been fairly wealthy as the monument was shipped from a town probably sixty miles away..well not shipped but brought..it's a granite monument..and i can read the names attached very easily...

Wow,that is amazing.I wonder if the graves we make now will be as well preserved as they were in the past.It seems they made things...how do I say it...better,sturdier,made them to last...it seems now things fall apart more quickly.

I read someplace online about how a lot of peoples' "gravesites" are their Myspace or Facebook pages, especially for people who've been cremated and had their ashes scattered, and who thus have no typical grave site. I shudder to think of how a system malfunction could wipe out all kinds of genealogical information.

Back your data up and store it in a safe place, guys.
