Yeah, it sound weird when I say it back to myself. It's a fuckin' movie about toys.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the first one, which I wasn't even gonna see until some chick dragged me to see it. Was happy to be wrong, and it was a really decent flick, if not exactly Citizen Kane.
This one, though?
Ok, it wasn't bad. It was an entertaining movie, and I've spent worse afternoons off of work.
Here's my problem with it. First, it's too damn long. This movie did NOT have to be almost two-and-a-half hours. That's just a bit shy of the theatrical releases of the LOTR movies, fercrissakes.
The first parts of the film were promising, some of the same sort of humor and coolness of the first. But, once things got rolling, it was pretty much just one long robot fight. Not that I have anything against a good robot fight...but it was like one continuous piece of action that was so fast and loud, you couldn't tell one robot from the other and had very little chance to see the great work the effects team did on them. Especially given the nature of these 'bots, it was just one massive jumble of parts rolling around the screen while shit blows up for the last hour and a half.
The first movie was awesome, watching one of these bad mutharobots attacking a military base or something...but when there's twelve of them...and twelve more fighting them...plus our own planes and tanks and shit...it's overkill.
And that's coming from me, ferfucksake! I am the KING of overkill! I get rid of anthills with gasoline!
Next time they do one of these, keep it cool, but tone it down a bit, willya?
Rant over. Carry on. 🙂
