When Ross got to the office in OKC he dropped his briefcase and suitcase in his office, greeted everyone in the office, and then went to sit with Fritz and Steve.
"I have until Wednesday night. I was hoping we might be able to get in a show this afternoon. Can we do one today, one tomorrow, one Wednesday, and then I will leave?" Ross asked.
"Yes, let's go out to lunch, and then drive to the field. I think only fifty people will be showing up today, but it's better than no one at all. Tomorrow and Wednesday should be at least one hundred fifty to two hundred people each day. Even if we get ten people today, it will be better than nothing" Fritz said.
Fritz, Steve, and Ross went to a steakhouse, downed lunch, and then to the fields.
Sure enough there were.. forty nine people exactly . The foreman, Fritz, and Steve lectured. Ross answered a few questions, but otherwise kept to himself. By the end of the show.. nine people committed to signing up, with a chance for two more. Far from great or even good, but better than nothing.
That evening, for a change, Fritz, Steve and Ross went to a Japanese Steakhouse, and managed to get their own table to be served Hibachi, courtesy of giving the staff, a "Very big tip" After that, Ross was taken back to the hotel, to prepare for the next morning's early show.
When Ross got upstairs, he called Kayley.
"How do you feel?" Kayley asked.
"I'm okay. We showed the fields to just shy of fifty people, and either nine or ten will sign up, Not great, but something is better than nothing. We have a show tomorrow, a show Wednesday, and then I will definitely be home by midnight Wednesday, hopefully earlier." Ross said.
"Are you happy to be out of the office?" Kayley asked.
"Except for missing you and your beautiful mind, face, and body, yes. I'm not thinking about anything business wise except these shows. I will deal with anything else when I get home" Ross said.
The next morning, after breakfast, Fritz, Steve and Ross went to the fields, and had two separate shows of seventy five people. This time the tally came to forty definite signings, with up to twenty more maybes, and half of those leaning more toward yes. It was a good day.
That night, Ross, Fritz and Steve met with a guy about a small cul de sac Housing Development. The deal looked good, so Ross signed a power of attorney to give Fritz and Steve authority to make decisions, since he would be back in NY by the time the decision was made.
The next day, Ross checked out of his hotel, the three men again went to the field, with two hundred potential people. It turned out to be another good day , with seventy five yes, twenty five maybe, and half of those leaning toward yes.
All in all, the two days which many people showed up, turned out to be very good.
Fritz and Steve took Ross to OKC airport for his 4 pm flight to NY. He got to Dallas a bit after five, his change of planes took off at seven, he was in JFK at midnight, and home by 1 am.
Kayley was half awake. She half raised her head to kiss Ross hello.
Before Ross went to sleep, he went to check his den.
Two messages. One from Charles Harton that Ross would deal with in the morning.
There was also another very interesting one.
"Ross, I am a man who used to handle Charles Harton's affairs and accounts some time ago. I heard you recently got him as a new account. I think I might have some very helpful information on how you might and maybe should go about dealing with him I called your office, and they said you were out of town, and told me to leave you a message on your home office. When you have a chance, I think it would be beneficial to us both if you give me a call" The voice said.
The man left his name, and his number.
Ross sat in his chair, and must have been deep in thought.
Within about five or ten minutes, Kayley, in shorts, a t shirt, and with messed up hair, came to find her husband.
"Aren't you coming to bed? You must be exhausted" Kayley said.
Ross rose from his desk chair, put his arm around Kayley, and went with her to bed. They held each other, but just both fell asleep.
Who was the mysterious man who called Ross? Could and would this man be able to help Ross with the seemingly difficult/impossible Charles Harton? Would the man want or expect anything in return for what the man had to tell Ross, and what if anything would the man ask for?
Those questions would be answered and seen.
