After watching that figure skating and then hearing the results, I think it is pretty clear that they are fixed...🙁

I don't think it was corruption so much as bias and prejudice.

The Eastern Bloc countries would vote for the Russian team as "Hometown favorites" no matter what they did, and the French Judge probably sided with them for the same reason the French do everything: Because he knew it would piss off the Americans...

so sad

Sucks, really.

This big event, that is supposed to be about goodwill and brotherhood and a chance for all nations to come together has been tainted by political bullshit.

Sad, sad, sad.

Congratulations, Olympic judges...you've taken something else that was good about the world and put your stupid, dumbass mark on it.

Anyone got something to wipe that thing off??

Not so.

If the French judge wanted to piss off the Americans, then why would she screw with the Canadian skaters. Didn't the US have a deo compeating. It all has to do with polatics and jelousy. We do very well in figuerskating. Silvers and golds along the bored most of the time. The French judge was pressed by her "Federation" to vote for the Russian skaters. If she hadn't it would have gotten her blacklisted from major amature judging. We (Canadians) have gotten screwed like this before, ever heard of Liz Manley?

id go with that... the snowboarding was screwed up ... judges dont know a good baorder when they see one...

and i cant even spell it!

Sorry Slaver, I forgot to put {JOKE} and {/JOKE} around that post. I know all the same details you mentioned, I just chose to be silly with it.

Real winners

"You got your version, I got the truth."
-- from ???

Let's face it...everyone knows the Canadians are the real winners here...they deserve that gold.

To paraphrase the X-Files, "The truth is out there." Let the Russians keep their medals...everyone knows who walked out the best in this contest.

This is a problem though when you have a sport that is subjectivly judged like this. You don't have these kind of problems with races, or distance events. You know this person won, because they went the fastest or jumped the farthest. There's no question about it, unless you doubt the accuracy of the timers.

There will always be controversies like this when you have human beings trying to quantize a perfomance. "Skater A was better then Skater B by 'this much'". There is just too much room for personal biases.

Not fixed..but the judges on the other hand are a different story.
Payoffs and or favoritism...personal feelings and grudges on judges parts...is a definate possibility and in some cases, as seen and delt with accordingly, a reality.

Double mathematics is next!

Hey come on guys, what exactly are the "Winter Olympics" if you think about it, 38 different ways of sliding. When you where at school in the winter it was called "playtime".

You can't say the Olympics are fixed just cause the figure skating was, i heard on the news that this had been goin' on for awhile just in figure skating, so i think it is only in figure skating🙂

Hmmmm...perhaps it is time to do away with Olympic sport in which there is a subjective judgement. The elimination of figure skating, ice dancing, gymnastics etc. Unless it is an accumulation of points by several judges at the same time. (boxing for example or judo). If that is not acceptable, then the nature of the competition within the sport must be changed to some scoring format that is not given to the opinion of an 'expert' but based in hard fact. A point scored...finished most quickly etc. Just a thought.

It's not just figure skating. Drizzt mentioned snowboarding -- at the men's halfpipe final, the entire stadium was booing the judges. I've also read reports that point out the weirdness of the results in men's mogul skiing. Jonny Moseley does a jump that blows away everything everyone else in the event did, and hits it perfectly not once but twice -- and he still comes in fourth? (And yes, the judges got booed there too.)

But yeah, the problem is most rampant in figure skating. Anyone who's watched it for any length of time knows that the judging is a popularity contest. It's just too bad it had to slop over into the Olympics.

That's why I'm a wrestling fan. I KNOW it's fixed, so I can just sit back and watch them go at it...

Agreed Shem..that is why I said perhaps it is time that subjectively judged events such as that should be removed from the olympics althogether. Let their own governing bodies fall as far down the spiral as they wish and see how long people will continue to compete. The only other option is to reconsider how one might win a competition. It saddens me to think that someone works so hard for so long to represent their country...then loses for the sake of some sad inbred form of international nepotism.
