I read the post about Rene Auberjonois earlier then I learned Carroll Spinney has passed at 85.
Who is Carroll Spinney? You may not recognize the name but he was the puppeteer who brought Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird to life on Seasame Street.
I'm 50, so I grew up with Sesame Street, so I was sad to hear of his passing. What I really found interesting was an interview Mr. Spinney gave on how he operated Big Bird. He said he got into the feet, put his left hand into the left hand of the costume, and then basically held the huge Big Bird head and operated the mouth with a trigger lever. He said that's why you always saw Big Bird's left hand move but never his right. Imagine you doing your job with your hand in the air all day, he said his arm would ache after a day as Big Bird.
Condolences to the families of Mr. Aberjonois and Mr. Spinney.
