A woman was traveling on the Acela Express on Amtrak yesterday with her newborn baby in a portable cradle in the seat next to her.
A man walking by looked at the baby and said, "Wow! That is the ugliest baby I've ever seen! Really, truly ugly."
The woman began to cry. Five minutes later, when the conductor came by to scan everybody's ticket, he saw that she was still crying.
"What's the trouble?" asked the conductor. "Can I do anything to help you?"
"No, nothing," she replied. "It's just that a man was very rude to me, very, very rude."
"That shouldn't happen," said the conductor. "Passengers should be polite to each other. I will do something for you to make you feel better. Come with me to the dining car, it's just two cars ahead of us, and I will get you a free lunch, courtesy of Amtrak."
"That's very kind of you," said the woman.
Glancing into the cradle, the conductor added, "And I will see if they have a banana for your monkey."
