Read about this is the newspaper today. Sadly, there really are some people who have no sympathy or patience for those who are challenged in one way or another, and take out their frustrations on those people.
I am a little hesitant to get the police involved though, as I'm not sure a crime has been committed. That being said, if this women really is speaking for others, I hope that now that the little page of her's has gone public, they are able to see exactly how they look when they are put under the microscope of scrutiny.

This is an old bit that's been around the internet a few times. I'm not saying the story is false, but I seriously doubt that that whoever delivered this letter actually wrote it.

The letter was vicious,. no doubt.. but..
It seems that the letter written was a meanly stated opinion, and not a "threat" against the child. I'm not a lawyer of course.. but.. I believe under those circumstances, the police might not have cause to do anything, unless the person involved was to contact the family again with such a letter, in which case it might be termed harassment.
Unfortunately, there are terrible people in this world, and the letter written seems to be an example of that.

I have the sneaking feeling this whole thing was a ham-handed marketing prank... a red herring. Meaning: that letter is too suspiciously cartoonish in its perfectly worded "hate me I'm evil" villainous way. I would look to see who has the most to gain from instigating this kind of "outrage" publicity... perhaps someone that could use a little more ancillary publicity for a new book or television show. Is there anyone associated with this incident that has a new TV show coming up?
