Opening Downloads

Lately I've been having a problem opening downloaded files. The download works just fine, but then the pop up to open or run the program pops up, I click it, and nothing happens. It just started a couple of days ago for me, and it's quite annoying. Any idea what might be causing it? Thank you.

What browser are you using? I know my Windows Updater pushed an IE 8 RC update onto my comp a few days ago. FireFox did so as well to 3.0.7, but I haven't noticed any problems myself.

Well right now I'm using AOL 9.5. Things worked ok when I was running 9.0. Should I switch back?

That's up to you. I'm not familiar enough with the AOL browser anymore to give any other recommendations. I'm pretty sure you can open IE after you connect to AOL though and get internet access unless they changed that.

AOL is basically a rebranded Internet Explorer, although the version it is based on I do not know. Do you have the capability to install and alternative browser (or use plain old Internet Explorer) to see if it is browser-based or a problem that stems from something affecting all browsers?

It does seem to be something that's browser based. I tried going in using Firefox and it worked just fine.

Ditch AOL then, I'd say. I recall that AOL used to convert all kinds of files into a proprietary format only they could open. You may be running into that issue.

That could be the case, though I just tried again today and it worked just fine. I don't know if that makes me more or less confused😛
