I chose not to post on the other threads bcause they all quickly snowballed. I am neither Palastine nor Jewish, and there are certainly TMF members with a more knowledgeable handle on the situation. But I will say this:
These people who blow themselves up are nothing more than puppets. I'm sickened not only by Saddam Hussien's offer to pay $25,000 to the families of martyrs, but by religious figures in the Islamic community who are publicly stating that these martyrs are gauranteed an afterlife in Paradise.
Saddam and these clerics are already living a life of paradise here on earth. The people that are killing themselves are peasants.
If these clerics and high ranking politicians feel that suicide is justified for the religion than my question is this: Why aren't they out blowing themselves up? You figure a religious cleric would have an even stronger calling to Jihad than a common peasant.
Most sickening are the palastine women who become martyrs. These women are treated like garbage, not given equal rights, and are severely repressed. And yet, they are so confused that they will kill themselves for the cause of this oppression. Totally mindless people.
--------------------
The bad thing about Israel's reluctance to back off is this: We need to get Saddam. He is the next (or current) major threat. He is probably kicking himself in the ass that he didn't have Osama's balls to attack American soil. He's probably looking to redeem himself.
Most countries were behind our cause until the current events. Even our strongest ally England wants us to back off.
The Jews and Palastines have a long legacy of hate for each other, but the current events aren't bettering the situation. I consider Israel to be by far the more intelligent of the two sides. I'd like to think they could compromise a more peaceful solution. I don't expect the barbarian palastines to make the first peace offer.
I know I don't have people blowing themselves up at my bus stops, but I was a stone's throw away from the worst act of terrorism on American soil, so I'd like to think I'm qualified to speak on these matters.
I'd like to think that we could just crush the badguys and that would be the end of it. Unfortunately that is not the case. It's going to take more than war to settle this.
