Hello Hollywood Brother, well I have not been posting on here for long, but have lurked for a while, and I have to say you have some very interesting posts on here and even though this is a tickling site you still enrich your posts with a hearth of knowledge. Well on to the post, I have been using LimeWire Pro for some time.
www.Limewire.com. It's very good for downloading music as well as software, movies are kind of tough to download, because of there size, but I have gotten a couple... I've found there is really no difference between the free and pro version, the pro is slightly faster.
It's very simple to use once you sign up with your e-mail address, now I don't know what internet connection you use, but it's still pretty intuitive.
Once it loads up you should see a couple of tabs on the top of the screen, one will say search, you should click it and there will be 6 buttons on the search page in the top left, Image Documents (no idea) Audio Video Programs(Games and Software) and Any Type.
I'm assuming your looking for music just to make an example, when you click the audio button, it will show, (beneath those six buttons) a song title box (title) an artist box, or an album box.
The Song Title box works the best, unless the song has a very generic title ie: "I love You".
Now that you have the title of the song you want, type it in the title box and press search, it will show a bunch of hosts(hopefully) who you can download from, it will show their internet connection T3 down to 56kb and the better connection the harder it is to download from them if you have files to share. The connections I download from the most seem to be cable connections, because they don't usually have as much traffic as the T3 or T1 ones do, and more people seem to have them. Also, if you find a popular music file,or and file, it will show on the screen next to the file name that there are multiple hosts shown with a number (2,3 etc) and these files usually download much faster. Now click the file you want, and you should see a download window open up below the search, it will tell you the speed of the download kb/s, and also the estimate of time it will take, although this can be a bad estimate if you just started downloading. Ok if the file does not download to the speed of your liking, you can right click it, in the file download box and choose KILL DOWNLOAD, which will end your download. then in the search box it will tell you which one was bad with a ripped piece of paper icon next to it.
Say you downloaded successfully now, it will place the file in the default directory, if you install it there c:\Program Files\Limewire\mysharedfolder your drive could be different just making an example.
Now for a warning, some buttmunches are out there looking to put spyware on people's computer, disguised as a normal file, anything under 179 kb do not download, they are viruses, but besides that, I've had not problems, I still reccomend having a virus program like Symantec or Norton though, just for safety.
Good Luck.
