the hollywood brother is wondering what most people on here use and where you can download it from

I would like to download it, though dunno how exatly yet...I was wondering, what exactly does this download do, anyway?

p2p is a file sharing software and i wanted to try one to see how it works and what is out there

Hello Hollywood Brother, well I have not been posting on here for long, but have lurked for a while, and I have to say you have some very interesting posts on here and even though this is a tickling site you still enrich your posts with a hearth of knowledge. Well on to the post, I have been using LimeWire Pro for some time. www.Limewire.com. It's very good for downloading music as well as software, movies are kind of tough to download, because of there size, but I have gotten a couple... I've found there is really no difference between the free and pro version, the pro is slightly faster.

It's very simple to use once you sign up with your e-mail address, now I don't know what internet connection you use, but it's still pretty intuitive.

Once it loads up you should see a couple of tabs on the top of the screen, one will say search, you should click it and there will be 6 buttons on the search page in the top left, Image Documents (no idea) Audio Video Programs(Games and Software) and Any Type.

I'm assuming your looking for music just to make an example, when you click the audio button, it will show, (beneath those six buttons) a song title box (title) an artist box, or an album box.

The Song Title box works the best, unless the song has a very generic title ie: "I love You".

Now that you have the title of the song you want, type it in the title box and press search, it will show a bunch of hosts(hopefully) who you can download from, it will show their internet connection T3 down to 56kb and the better connection the harder it is to download from them if you have files to share. The connections I download from the most seem to be cable connections, because they don't usually have as much traffic as the T3 or T1 ones do, and more people seem to have them. Also, if you find a popular music file,or and file, it will show on the screen next to the file name that there are multiple hosts shown with a number (2,3 etc) and these files usually download much faster. Now click the file you want, and you should see a download window open up below the search, it will tell you the speed of the download kb/s, and also the estimate of time it will take, although this can be a bad estimate if you just started downloading. Ok if the file does not download to the speed of your liking, you can right click it, in the file download box and choose KILL DOWNLOAD, which will end your download. then in the search box it will tell you which one was bad with a ripped piece of paper icon next to it.

Say you downloaded successfully now, it will place the file in the default directory, if you install it there c:\Program Files\Limewire\mysharedfolder your drive could be different just making an example.

Now for a warning, some buttmunches are out there looking to put spyware on people's computer, disguised as a normal file, anything under 179 kb do not download, they are viruses, but besides that, I've had not problems, I still reccomend having a virus program like Symantec or Norton though, just for safety.

Good Luck.

I've heard some really good things about Limewire. Some of my friends have it, and it works really well for them. I'm not sure how well some of the other programs work, but if those in the know recommend them, they must have something behind them 🙂
On the other hand, I definitely would not suggest Kazaa. A few months back, there was a big story on the news about how a lot of people who've used it have wound up having a lot of major computer problems.

Yeah I've tried pretty much all of them starting with the Napster Kazaa Morpheus E-Donkey E-Mule Bear-share etc. and LimeWire is hands down the best, the files are quick to download, no viruses, unlike Kazaa, and very reliable, the free one is just about as good as the pro.

the hollywood brother thanks all of you for answering this thread. the hollywood brother was using kazzaa and ares lite but since he upgraded to windows xp from windows 98, the downloads have gotten real slow and the hollywood brother can not figure out why so that is why the hollywood brother is wondering what else is out there

the other reason the hollywood brother put this thread up is so all the 10,000 pus members can learn about p2p and learn what to use and how to use it. after all as a member with over 1600 post it is the hollywood brother job to keep things going and have fun here for everyone.

I use Kazaa and Soulseek!!!
Soulseek is the best for music, even if you search a semi-unknown band you will find it!!!
It's true that kazaa is slow but for certain type of videos and more for me is the best!!!
