1-Can't copy, paste or cut anything on TMF. when I'm on TMF, the commands on the edit pull down menu are all grayed out.
I can kind of get around this by right clicking in the text space of a new post screen and then using the commands on that drop down menu.
I clear my browser cache a couple of times each time I'm on line, and I do NOT have this problem on any other website I visit, so I don't think it's a browser problem as Myriads suggested.

2-The smileys just ignore my clicks and never appear in the posts.

Seems your questions are bit confusing.

What browser are you using Tankman? Internet Explorer? Mozilla Firefox? Opera? Safari? Konqueror? Etc? I suggest trying to use a different browser and seeing if that fixes it. If it does then it is narrowed down to a browser issue and we can either try to fix it or you can just use the new browser, eh?

That's a problem.

I'm stuck using the aol homepage as my browser.

I used to just minimize it and use Internet explorer 6, but one day AOL downloaded a software 'update' without my permission which damaged my copy of IE6. AOL's software had also blocked my system from using any other browser or any ISP other than them. I have had technicians in here from two other isp's, and they have given up and said that my system cannot use any isp but aol until I uninstall and reinstall windows. That will not be doable, because i have gigabytes of data files I have no convenient way to back up, and I don't have and I no longer have the disk to reinstall my MS Office software. (It got lost when I moved from NYC to Pittsburgh). so, I'm hoping that this problem, which appeared very suddenly just a short time ago, is not a browser problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the aol software since, and It restored the ability to cut, copy and paste in the new post window, but i still can't use the smileys.

Are you able to update to IE7? Windows Update should have that update listed so long as you haven't refused it. If that works it might repair IE and enable you to use it.

Unfortunately everything sounds like it is an issue with AOL. They are somewhat notorious for causing issues in all sorts of applications and situations.

Here's another America Off Line 'peculiarity'

Because they route each date packet of a message through a different proxy server at random, many websites, especially secure sites, interpret any attempt to comminicate with or access the site through AOL as a denial of service attack and rejects all the packets, thus not allowing the acess or communication.

Sites which cannot be accessed due to this 'feature' of aol include windows update! (BIG surprise, NOT!)

This also has cost me access to my Netflix account, two email accounts, the sites where I used to buy clothes, booze and tobacco, and several others.

Dang. You sound, unfortunately, like you do need a system wipe to get rid of AOL. There are free replacements for MS Office that are just as good as it but there isn't a good (legal) way to get around the lack of Windows install CD. If you do bring it to a repair shop they might be able to reformat and repair it using a Windows CD they have (Especially if you have your license key sticker still on your PC) but that's about the only option I can suggest. 🙁

My friends were having problems with only being able to use AOHell's browser - isn't there a patch that is available on the net (I'm going to suppose it's not an official one) that overides only being able to use their browser? I suppose Googling it would be the best way to find it. Hope this helps, MT.
