Last night,I got a message from Paypal.

We need your help resolving an issue with your PayPal account.

What's the problem?

As of April, 2012, new Federal Regulations require Money Service
Businesses, such as PayPal, to verify the identity of a customer before we
can provide various services or product offerings. As a result, PayPal must
ensure we have collected and verified important data such as customer name,
address, date of birth, and national tax ID or social security number.
Because we were not able to fully confirm your identity based on your
current account information, we need to request additional supporting
documentation from you.

You will continue to have full access to your PayPal account, but until we
are able to confirm your identity, we may be unable to process certain
types of customer initiated requests such as adding funds to your PayPal
account.

Now,they are telling me I can withdraw money from my account,or send money via Paypal. I just can't add funds to my account.
Something just doesn't sound right to me.

It could be a phishing scam.

If the email does not have your full name in it I would not trust it.

Either way send it paypal to have it checked out. They have an address to report scams. I forget what it is. Might be on their site. The y usually answer back in a few hours as to whether or not the email is legit.

Thanks my friend. :ty: I also logged into Paypal. I get the same message there. I will contact them to see what is going on. They are asking for photo ID,SSN or tax ID card.

Yea get it confirmed. Always open up a fresh window on a fresh browser. In another close your browser and open it back up and type www.paypal.com and then log in. Dont trust any link in an email ever. 🙂

I just contacted them. It does seem odd,if that thing is an issue, that I can send funds, but I can't add them.

I agree :iagree: With these things a high degree of paranoia is very useful LOL I always check and check again. Heck I would even call them to be triply sure. 🙂

As a trucker,I am very^999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 paranoid. It is odd. I am being told I can't add funds. But yet, when I click on add funds via Green Dot,it takes me to the Green Dot page.

If this were a scam, it would likely tell you the opposite - that you could add funds, but not withdraw. I doubt any scam would GIVE you money.

That being said, I still would take measures to ensure your internet safety. Phishing is a very common practice. Whenever logging into something like paypal, make sure that there aren't any background scripts being run on your browser. Be wary of toolbars, addons, etc.

Some great tips.Thanks. :ty: Kurch has sent me some links with other people who had the same fears as I do. It "may" be legit. I have contacted Paypal, and I am awaiting their answer.

Gen Zod, I have an active and verified Paypal account and none of those info had been asked of me. I also did not receive such kind of intrusive message. Do try to see if the URL is from Paypal.

Same here.

@Bohemianne and Kered.

The paypal site I log onto has the HTTPS. I am getting the same message over there that I got via email. I am awaiting their reply when I asked them about it.

Tracy and I had to verify our account that we use for UNY as well, but we contacted them directly by phone to do so. Nothing done via email or website. Apparently they are moving in this direction to stop folks from dumping large sums of money into accounts....closing loopholes so to speak...just like the banks report large deposits to the IRS so too will paypal. But get confirmation directly from them. I suggest personal contact though...
