They used to say that the cover-up is far worse than the offense...

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Penn State's investigation into the Jerry Sandusky scandal concludes that Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno and other senior officials ''concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky's child abuse'' because they were worried about bad publicity.

A 267-page report is the result of an eight-month inquiry by former FBI director Louis Freeh, hired by university trustees weeks after Sandusky was arrested in November to look into what has become one of sports' biggest scandals.

The report says president Graham Spanier, football coach Joe Paterno, athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz ''failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade.''

Sandusky is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of 45 criminal counts. The scandal led to the ouster of Paterno and the school's president.

This story is sickening beyond belief. Everyone involved in this cover-up needs to join Sandusky behind bars.

What's the line about "all that evil needs to thrive is for "good" men to do nothing"? There were so many instances at Penn State that it was a "standing" joke to never drop the soap in the shower if Sandusky was around. So many young lives devastated because even those that reported an incident, did not follow up. I wonder if it had been their own sons......

Joe Paterno, the only man who ever got off easy by dying of cancer. I don't give a shit what anyone has to say about it, enabling a child rapist through inaction makes you just as bad. Fuck him. I hope all the still living people named in that report get locked up for the rest of their pathetic lives.

I'll never understand how so many people could just look the other way with what was apparently a pretty blatant kiddy-diddler right there in their midst. The whole situation is disgusting and kind of disheartening at the same time.

Unfortunately we are going to keep hearing about this into next year. Different measures should have been taken, now with the civil suits pending and upcoming trials of the administrators plus the NCAA is thinking about putting sanctions on the school, I feel that justice will be served.

Update:

University Park — As the sun came up, the Joe Paterno statue began coming down.

By 7:45 a.m. this morning, jackhammers rattled behind a metal fence covered by a blue tarp. The statue was tied to a forklift. The fence shielded the statue, covered in clear plastic and protective packaging materials.

The statue was removed at 8:24 a.m. The forklift carried it into the stadium as about a dozen workers followed.

A moment later, a man in the crowd started a "We are Penn State" chant. After it finished, another man yelled, "We love you, Joe."

Sports fan loyalty is so fucked up sometimes.

Something symbolic about Mr. Paterno's likeness being draped in blue packing blankets. Kind of like a criminal suspect hiding from TV cameras. The upturned finger recalls Nixon's V-sign as he left the White House for the very last time.

All schools' athletics honchos would probably behave just like Mr. Paterno in instances like the ones at issue here. It's just the nature of academia.

What happened at Penn State, is just sick. I can't believe there is 28% of people who felt the sanctions were "too harsh" 60 million dollar fine is only worth 1 year revenue. They should have pushed for 5 years worth. And they only removed 5 scholarships? Hopefully the Big East Conference will impose harsher penalties. And all their top players will move to a worthy school that they can wear the jersey with pride.

Sick Sick people they should all go to jail, every person who knew and thought the best they could do is "file some paperwork" on it.

^When you remove scholarships you are punishing students who had nothing to do with the Sandusky incident.^

They have the option to go elsewhere...current students who are on scholarships and choose to stay can retain them with no penalty as long as they meet academic standards.

Current students have the option to transfer without penalty until the start of the 2013-14 season.
