People Having Two Sides To Them?

I'm not sure exactly how to word this.. so.. I'll just try to do it the best I can..

Do forum members ever think that people have.. two sides to them?

What I mean by that is like.. a calm, studious side, and then a completely wild side.

I;m beginning to think this about myself,.

I think its possible that my mentor, Jay, has this as well.

Jay posts. every detail about his life on Facebook. Far more than I ever posted .. or got myself into trouble for.. on here./

He'll write "Having a drink at whatever bar", and take a picture of the drink.,

So... apparently in his personal life.. he;s this laid back guy who likes to drink.. but.. he's an insurance agent. He is not the prototypical insurance agent.

Which brings me to myself: At the office.. I'm all like "Okay, I understand we have to learn this law about insurance"

I don't drink alcohol.. as most on here know.. but.. my "vice".. the casino..

Yesterday.. I went to my favorite place.. and came within.. a photo finish, of winning what would have been a $1000 trifecta. I was cursing and screaming at the tops of my lungs.

I could just see posting on Facebook.. for the people I work with.. who are on Facebook.

"Mitch goes fucking nuts, and uses every swear word, because he narrowly misses a $1000 trifecta".

Everyone at the office would probably be like "WTF".

Anyhow.. not to go off on a tangent, to the point of my post.. do people have./. two sides to them?

I think most people are actually multifaceted. I dont think its weird that he posts pictures on facebook because thats what everybody on facebook does. I dont see how his status about having a drink is similar to one saying "Mitch is fucking nuts" like you wrote in your post.

People have multiple sides. No one is a simple this or that. Most individuals shift with context.

Mairead, I didnt say "Mitch IS fucking nuts". I said "Mitch GOES fucking nuts".. as in.. yells, etc, because I narrowly missed a $1000 trifecta.

Dussicar.. what you said is positively laughable.. How is my "Second side".. "Pre rock bottom", when my life has been very much on the upswing over the past six months? It doesnt make any sense.

I don't believe it to be an issue of people having two (or however many) sides to them; I see it as simply that most individuals will are going to act a bit more conservative in the workplace because the entire point of being there is to, y'know, work. In addition to how you present yourself, there's also the reality that as a general rule, one's personal interests are going to have limited utility in the performance of one's job. I'm a member of an experimental performance art troupe; it's a pretty serious hobby and a major part of my life (hell, I met my life-mate from it). But, aside from a few coworkers I'm exceptionally close with, most people at my office don't know. Not because I'm trying to compartmentalize my life or because I have another side to me; but because it's irrelevant to what I do.

I will say though (as the mention of Facebook touches on, consciously or not on your part), that the existence of social media has blurred boundaries between one's private and public lives in ways that I think are still evolving.

As everyone else has said, I believe people have several sides to them. I myself have 5 sides to my personality. I am the very essence of a pentagon.
