So a while back, I came across articles about how the Origination PETA went after Pokemon and Super Mario because they saw them a Virtual Cruelty to Animals.

Well they're at it again. This time they're upset at the Upcoming Game Assassins Creed IV, because of Whaling. When you're on a Ship, you have the Option to Kill Ocean Creatures.

This is what PETA had to say about this.

"It's disgraceful for any game to glorify it. PETA encourages Video Game Companies to create games that celebrate animals, not games that promote hurting and killing them."

During the Time Period in the Game, this Stuff actually went on. It's just part of the Game, it's not the Entire Game. And I doubt that anyone who Plays the Game when it is Released is gonna become a Pirate and go out Killing Whales.

Thoughts?

Depends on how important whaling is in the game and how it is shown. Was there an outcry due to Far Cry 3 where you have to hunt animals at times in order to improve your gear? What qualifies one animal for more protection than another?

PETA is often overly-retarded about shit like this.

I take the same attitude with this as I do with people claiming that video games inspire, or even desensitize people to violence; it's a total crock of steaming horse shit. Just because there's a game that shows historically accurate events (Yeah, whaling happened. Fucking get over it.) does not mean that I'm going to load up my dinghy with a harpoon and go Captain Ahab on the Pacific Ocean.

It's not going to inspire whaling, and it's (probably) not going to glorify it. At worst, it's going to explain the previous need for it, and at best it's going to demonstrate where and when it went too fuckin' far.

Sometimes an organization (and/or business) devoted to the abolition of a problem, thinks it must perpetuate the problem in order to continue to exist. Greed and hubris are the bedfellows of the sanctimonious.

PETA's leaders (and many of its members) are self-righteous assholes.

I personally do not condone Whaling, but even I'm aware of its importance (both industrially & symbolically) in American History. These people make me sick.

PETA is full of shit, and I could never take them seriously.

At least they’re consistent and stick to what their mission is all about. When they say “ethical treatment of animals”, they’re not kidding, as they’ll go as far as the virtual and imaginary world to condemn the harming of animals. Whether this is just some publicity stunt, because PETA is known for those, or whether they feel entitled to condemn free speech and artistic expression in video games, I don’t know. That’s the tricky thing about the virtual world and accusing others of being self-righteous. Since it’s truly fictional and imaginary, I guess they are making a big deal about nothing, but then is there a line to be drawn even in the virtual world where it’s not so self-righteous to condemn something imaginary? They’re certainly not the first to have an issue with people’s imaginations.

Shouldn't they be focusing on actual whaling instead of what goes on in a video game...

Shouldn't the Police focus more on the drug suppliers than the drug users? It's about taking an easy stance to make themselves look successful & active. Personally, I don't know how a group that funds domestic terrorism can be considered "ethical".

What about Assassin's Creed 3? You don't want to know how many elk, wolves, bobcats, bears, raccoons, beavers, deer, and rabbits I hunted and killed in that game. I haven't heard anything about that though. I think my position will be made clear with the following:

Interesting point.....very interesting.

I tend to wonder if PETA has figured this out logically and rationally? If one allows all animals to just reproduce without means of thinning the herd, where do the animals go? What safe and comfortable space will they have to live in, especially domesticated animals who are fed and maintained by humans? We've had our share of issues with the wild animals, but nature takes care of the thinning process.

PETA can educate and if people choose not to purchase animal products to eat or wear, that's one thing because it came via personal education and decision. To force your opinions and issues down the public's throat is another, and that is EXACTLY what they're doing.

But the crazy has got to stop......seriously! Breaking into medical labs, throwing paint on coats in modeling shows, and their other means of "protest" is ridiculous and you've violating rights of people in order to protect the rights of animals?? Makes no sense to me :sowrong:
